So, looking at all former Ute basketball players, what would your starting five and backups be? Here is mine:
PG – Andre Miller
SG – Mike Newlin
SF – Jerry Chambers
PF – Keith Van Horn
C – Andrew Bogut
Secon Team
PG – Jeff Jonas (Pace Mannion should also be in he discussion.)
SG – Ticky Burden
SF – Danny Vranes
PF – Billy McGill (He played a lot of center in college, but he was only 6’9″. He probably should be on the first team, but Bogut was a true center, so I put him on the first team.)
C – Tom Chambers (Jacob Poeltl, Sojourner, and Doleac would be in the mix.)
My coach would be Jack Gardner. I know many would say Majerus, and he was great. But, Gardner coached three final four teams. Jack Gardner is a legend in college basketball.
Some will choose based on recent bias (80s through today).. Utah had a lot of true All-American players who played in the 60s and 70s. Look them up and check out their stats.
