ParticipantThe game will be played in the new Raiders stadium. (Per Brett McMurphey tweet). This would be a huge upgrade to potential bowl matchups! So long MWC!

ParticipantI would like to see this become a Jan 1 bowl.

ParticipantNo way will Vegas Bowl be around New Years Day. Vegas doesn’t need the money then. It will probably stay early in December or the second week in January.

ParticipantDoubt it will stay as early as it is, but you are right no way it is a new years game.

ParticipantYeah, I think it will be a January 5-10 type game. Like the day before the national title game. Or the Thursday before. Right after the NYE rush leaves Vegas.

ParticipantI’ve been telling you guys for years that once the Raiders moved to Vegas, they’d build a new stadium and Vegas Bowl would become the #2 or #3 bowl for the PAC-12 behind the Rose Bowl. AND, because it’s Vegas, I’ve been telling you guys that the SEC would be the #1 option for the partner.
This is great news for the PAC-12. Imagine a Bowl lineup like this:
Rose Bowl vs Big 10
Vegas Bowl vs SEC
Alamo Bowl vs Big 12
Holiday Bowl vs Big 10
Foster Farms vs Big 10
Sun Bowl vs ACC
Cactus Bowl vs Big 12
That is a fantastic bowl lineup. And if the Vegas Bowl does well with the SEC, you could see the PAC-12 try to work the SEC into traveling out west further to the Holiday Bowl as well.
BUT, I don’t think that will ever happen, because I don’t think the SEC will do well in the Vegas Bowl and will lose a lot of games there seeing how it isn’t in their backyard and they won’t want to take another bowl loss out west every year.

ParticipantIf it becomes our #2 bowl, I wonder who the SEC sends out. They have a good bowl lineup already with close to home venues. We all know how much they like to travel… There is a draw to the new shiny nfl stadium, but who gets bumped down the list?
- Citrus (shared with ACC, Big Ten, Notre Dame)
- Outback (vs. Big Ten)
- Orange (shared with ACC, Big Ten, Notre Dame)
- Liberty (vs. Big 12)
- TaxSlayer (shared with ACC, Big Ten, Notre Dame)
- Music City (shared with ACC, Big Ten, Notre Dame)
- Belk (vs. ACC or Notre Dame)
- Texas (vs. Big 12)
- Independence (vs. ACC or Notre Dame)
- Birmingham (vs. American)

ParticipantFans LOVE traveling to Vegas and conferences will very likely be bumping into each other clamoring to be part of a bowl in that city.

ParticipantI’d bet #4 at worst.
I’d be down with that. #4 SEC vs #2 PAC-12.
Last year would have been Stanford vs LSU or South Carolina or Miss St.
That would be a fun game.
