There has been a lot of talk lately about Huntley’s size and whether he is physically ready to take the weekly pounding the PAC 12 provides. Below is a list of the PAC 12 starters, including their sizes:
Tyler Huntley – Utah (So) – 6′ 1″, 190 lbs (2.6 lbs/in)
Justin Herbert – Oregon (So) – 6′ 6″, 225 lbs (2.88 lbs/in)
Steven Montez – Colorado (So) – 6′ 5″, 225 lbs (2.92 lbs/in)
KJ Costello – Stanford (So) – 6′ 5″, 217 (2.81 lbs/in)
Sam Darnold – USC (RS So) – 6′ 4″, 220 lbs (2.89 lbs/in)
Ross Bowers – Cal (RS So) – 6′ 2″, 200 lbs (2.7 lbs/in)
Jake Browning – Washington (Jr) – 6′ 2″, 210 lbs (2.83 lbs/in)
Josh Rosen – UCLA (Jr) – 6′ 4″, 218 lbs (2.86 lbs/in)
Brandon Dawkins – Arizona (RS Jr) – 6′ 3″, 210 lbs (2.8 lbs/in)
Manny Wilkins – ASU (RS Jr) – 6′ 3″, 200 lbs (2.66 lbs/in)
Darell Garretson – OSU (Sr) – 6′ 0″, 205 lbs (2.84 lbs/in)
Luke Falk – WSU (RS Sr) – 6′ 4″, 223 lbs (2.93 lbs/in)
It is obvioius that Huntley is the smallest QB in the PAC 12. If you take out Huntley, the average lbs/in for a PAC 12 starting QB is 2.83. In order to get to that average, Huntley would need to get to about 205 lbs. The question is how will gaining 10-15 lbs effect Huntley’s running ability? I would argue that the extra weight would not change his scrambling ability if put on the right way. I trust our strength and conditioning program to help Huntley do it the right way. I’m not saying that Huntley’s injury was due to him being small but anyone saying this isn’t an issue is ignoring the data.

The kids has a larger frame. I think he’ll gain 5 lbs or so each year and be just fine. We just need to get him and keep him healthy this year.

The kid definitely needs to put weight on. I don’t think anyone is denying that.
To put it in perspective, Johnny manziel at Texas A&M was 6’0″ 200lbs
I could be wrong but I do not recall him getting injured.-

Only by his own stupidity.

Do you have the stats on Lamar Jackson & Marcus Mariota? I’ve seen coaches & players compare Huntley to those two (in style, not talent), and I don’t remember those two ever really having injury issues, so if he were to play at a similar size I think he’d do well.

Lamar Jackson 6’3″ 212 lbs
Marcus Mariota (as a freshman) 6’4″ 200 lbs, Senior 6’4″ 212 Lbs (from ducks roster), NFL 6’4″ 222 lbs
Deshaun Watson Freshman 6’2 205 lbs, Senior 6’3″ 215 lbs

Jackson is currently listed at 6’3″ 211lbs (per ESPN)
Mariota is currently listed at 6’4″ 222lbs with the Titans (per ESPN). Not sure what he was at Oregon.
Troy Williams is listed at 6’2″ 208lbs (per Utah roster)
At the same time, we all know that height and weight for most players is somewhat exaggerated. I think Huntley will be fine. With his athleticism, he could easily put on 5-15 lbs and not have it affect his running.

I was surprised at how much bigger Wynn looked in his final year than he did as a Freshman. Definitely filled out. I will always wonder if we had red shirted him and bulked him up if he could have avoided a career ending injury.

I still think Jordan Wynn is one of Utah’s biggest what ifs. The kid could sling it before his injury. Threw one of the prettiest looking deep balls.

I think he was made out of balsa wood.
