Not sure how reliable this Twitter account is, but it’s not the first time ASU and UA have been mentioned in Big-XII expansion speculation.
So, question: If ASU and UA were to leave the PAC-12 and join the Big-XII, would you replace them? If so, with whom?
Personally, I’d prefer to stay as is and play a full round-robin schedule with the top 2 teams to finish the season playing in a conference title game. That means 2 CA games per season, plus 2 games to the NorthWest each year. I’d take that.

ParticipantHonestly I’d say so long and good luck to the AZ schools.

ParticipantDitto. We can just go back to the “Pac-10” again. So long as we get to keep the Rose Bowl, if they wan’t leave, then I say don’t let the door swing shut and hit ’em on the a** on the way out.

ParticipantI wouldn’t be too sad to see them go. However, the BIG 12 would be stretching themselves. WV to AZ is a lot of ground to cover.

ParticipantRumor has it that the sticking point is they won’t go to the big 12 unless they can bring TDS with them. Remember everything revolves around TDS and I’m sure the Arizona schools made a courtesy to Holmoe before they decided to do anything

ParticipantI’d say, good riddance. Not sure about the logistics, but replace them with someone like Houston and UCF. Just big enough to add intrigue and stay competitive, but not steal the limelight.

PhiladelphiaUte
ParticipantUCF? That’s a “geographic” poor fit.
I don’t have a problem with poaching Houston and SMU from the AAC, but I’d prefer remaining a 10-team league over adding them.

ParticipantI would be very surprised if the Arizona schools left the PAC-12. They have too many connections to California (recruiting base, alumni, etc.) to depart.

Culturally AZ is Cali’s little brother

ParticipantLet’s swap them for Texas and OK.

ParticipantGreg Swaim has zero credibility. He is 0/1000 on conference realignment rumors.
-
TheJuggernaut
ParticipantThere would be no need to replace them, since the PAC could still have a championship game with 10 members.

ParticipantYep, 10 teams would be perfect IMO. No more divisions, just top 2 teams play again, all teams face each other every year.
No love lost from me if we never see the Arizona schools again.

ParticipantThat Swaim guy is the least reliable source on twitter. He’s tweeted “breaking news” concerning BYU joining the Big12 since 2015.
-
UteFanatic
ParticipantEven BYU fans ignore him now – that’s saying something considering they get excited about any conference realignment rumor – no matter how small.

ParticipantWould never happen. Everyone in Arizona is a wanna-be Californian. No way they turn to the midwest.
I can see it as a possible “leak” to signal they are unhappy with the revenue of the Pac12 without outright saying so. Might be a sign of cracks over the way Scott is handling things.

ParticipantPretty weak bluff if that is true.

ParticipantMy biggest concern if they were to leave is the possibility of the rest of the conference seizing the opportunity to go back to the original Pac-8. There have been rumors of this desire for years, even before Utah and Colorado joined. If Arizona and ASU left the conference that would put Utah and Colorado on a bit of a geographical island possibly making the idea of a Pac-8 that much more desirable.

ParticipantUSC and the seven dwarves?

I would point out that Utah was an original member of the conference that became the PAC 12

ParticipantPAC-8 would never happen in today’s college football landscape. 8 teams = no conference championship game = no shot at the playoffs.

ParticipantArizona and Kansas basketball can commisserate with their death penalty (no, wait, its the NCAA — sorry Wichita State and Grand Canyon State!)

ParticipantLet’s see…
Arizona is in the Pacific Timezone > 2/3 of the football season and the schools start their early-season games rather late so they are playing after sundown to avoid the worst of the heat but they are going to change conferences so they can get more “Central Time Zone games”?

ParticipantIs everyone forgetting that California might be ostracized / removed from the NCAA eligibility because of the recent law changes? Maybe AZ ASU are just trying to stay relevant just in case the PAC12 implodes once California schools become irrelevant.
Not saying it’ll happen, not even saying they won’t make their own California conference with paid players and vegas weekends, but it’s a thought.
