ParticipantWhen Scalley is named HC do we think Swan has what it takes to be the DC? He’s an awesome recruiter and seems like the players really love him.

ParticipantThere’s no doubt in my mind that he would probably be the DC. However, you’d have to watch for heartburn from Shah, who’s probably the most decorated assistant at Utah and has a proven record of success with DBs. I mean, Shah has been in Utah for 13 years now. You’d think he would be politicking for a DC position, if not in Utah, then somewhere else.

KeymasterI read somewhere that Shaw is not interested in the DC position and likes where he is.

ParticipantI know I’ve said that he doesn’t seem to want a different job but I’ve never seen anything official one way or another. He certainly hasn’t acted like he wants advancement as I’ve also never heard about him interviewing elsewhere.
He and Scalley could have a handshake agreement that he moves up to DC when Scalley moves up but if they do it hasn’t been leaked. I’m of the opinion that if he’s spent 13 years in the same job, he’s probably happy where he’s at.

ParticipantI think the assumption that Swan would be DC comes from the idea that Shah likes being the DBs coach. Idk if that’s true or not because I know if I were Shah and got passed up I’d be offended at least a little bit. But who knows, I’m not gonna worry about that till it happens

ParticipantShah is a standard bearer for Utah Athletics. He has 3 degrees from the University of Utah, including a law degree, while coming from Compton, California. I’d like to see what he can do running a defense and recruiting.

ParticipantFootball is the ultimate “what have you done for me lately” career. Player or coach.
Shah has lead some of our worst special teams since taking over and has perhaps the weakest DBs he has fielded over the last 2 years. He hasn’t landed “The Recruit” since CPIII.
I get that he has unbelievable amounts of personal distractions at the moment, but I wouldn’t hand him anything at this point.
Love the guy but his groups have not performed to the standard he has set.

ParticipantSnowden was a pretty big recruit

ParticipantSnowden was a good get and I am happy with his performance, but he’s not in the same category as Johnson or CPIII.
We need corners who can shutdown entire sections of the field. Snowden is not there yet.

ParticipantFor me, it’s a NO to Shah and Swan. I am so disappointed with the defense this year. I recognize we have injuries, but the inability to tackle feels inexcusable to me. If we tackle we have a legitimate shot to be undefeated right now despite the warts on offense. I can’t help but relate tackling issues to coaching. I think they have both done a good job coaching exceptional talent, but I struggle to see where they take the kid that isn’t exceptional and make him that through coaching. Linebackers are completely lost this year. Secondary lacks play making. I would rather see us go another direction for DC. I know that is a pipe dream because Scalley will promote from within, but I would consider trying to lure Jay Hill back to the U if he doesn’t leave for a head coaching gig. I am also intrigued by the idea of brining Gary Anderson back. That would probably be unpopular, but he is an exceptional defensive coach.

ParticipantAndersen has been out of football for, what, 2-3 years? His last gig was working as an analyst under Jay Hill at Weber State. Yeah, I’d be scratching my head if that’s who the next DC was.

ParticipantI don’t think you forget how to coach defense. It won’t be him but I think he is a good coach, he is currently working as a defensive analyst at BYU.
-
The Miami Ute
ParticipantYou sure about that? I know that he worked as a consultant during BYU’s Spring camp but didn’t know that he was on the staff.

ParticipantMust be working as an independent contractor seeing as he’s not on the staff directory.

Participantno no no on G Anderson, S**take Rodrick or any byu has bens. we need some new blood in there. there are a ton of up and coming offensive and defensive minded coaches out there that would love to be on the Utah coaching staff. we need to move on past the old guard, and while we are at Cam Rising as well. bye all and lets start anew
