I am eternally grateful to those who served in defense of our country. I would like to mention a few close to me.
My dad served for over four years during WWII
My uncle was shot and killed on November 30, 1944, on the German border (He was barely 19)
My cousin fought in the Pacific and was lucky to survive
My brother-in-law was deployed six times over the last twenty years
Thank you so much for your brave service. I enjoy a wonderful life because of you.

Unbelievably grateful for our armed forces. Whoever gave your comment a thumbs down is a huge douche. I invite them to move to Afghanistan.

@Tony I would love to see a feature that shows who is giving thumbs up and thumbs down.

Admin’s can see. 🙂 I’ve thought about that, but I think people would more freely vote either way if they know it is anonymous. I do think it is douchey to downvote every post certain users make, and I will privately message people who do that and ask them WTF.

As a current member of the Armed Forces (active duty Air Force), I appreciate the support, but am also fully supportive if someone wants to thumbs down a post that they disagree with them. I may not agree with them, but I don’t love the mindset that says any criticism or thumbs down to a post about military is worth an outrage or witch hunt.
Like I said, I’m as supportive of our military as anyone and OP’s familial sacrifice means a lot to me specifically since it paved the way for so much that I do, but if someone wants to have an unpopular opinion that I disagree with, that’s what being American is all about. Ultimately, it’s a thumbs down on a message board, meaningless in the grand scheme of things and not worth the outrage

No outrage or witch hunt from me. I honestly don’t fret about my posts getting a thumbs down. Many other boards have the feature to see who reacts to posts in a certain way.
Too many keyboard warriors that love to hide behind their computer.-

I got a thumbs down once. It didn’t bother me none.

Please tell me that thumbs down was an accident…

Sometimes that happens.

Folks on this board routinely give thumbs downs to my thoughts and opinions, stories of my personal history, and no one says anything about it. But, I give a thumbs down to a post glorifying militarism and nationalism, cloaked in familial love/honour, and people are aghast. I have removed my votes.

I mentioned family only because they are the ones I know best. Every Veteran’s Day I text associates of mine who have served. I do respect our veterans.
I believe I understand your feelings on nationalism. Are we as Americans better than citizens from other countries?

I wish we took care of our veterans better when they return home.
