I like this radio thing they do on 1280 with Hans. Made me think what has been the good bad and ugly over these past few seasons of growing pains.

Ugly first for me would be the Dave Christensen hire. What a colossal mistake. It has come with some good because Utah got a great coach in Harding. But overall Christensen was the worst thing for this program and I think Whitt had to retool fast after dumping him.

Bad luck more like it. Losing Norm Chow to Hawaii. I get it Chow has always wanted to be a head coach. He has done so much for college football but he hasn’t got that offer. In comes Hawaii one of the worst and hardest programs to be successful and takes him away. I really liked the direction Utah was heading with him. I still think that is the best offense Utah has had since 2004. It made sense and it had a scheme in place.  Losing Chow really set Whitt down a bad path of poor hires as well.

The good?  What’s not to love about the PAC?  Oregon win is probably the Utah has arrived moment.  Beating USC two years ago albeit against a mostly sober Sarkisian. Bitchsmacking BYU all of these years and then dumping them like it ain’t nothing. Spoiling the khakis return to college football. BACK TO BACK wins against Stanford?  So much to love and say good times. The good is the future more Utah games against great teams.  Just look at that home schedule this year and thank heavens you will always have quality football being played.

Yes yes.  Your last line is the KEY.  Our schedule is going to be AWESOME until we all die.  No more shiznit schedule.  No Larmie.  Instead, it’s USC, UCLA, Stanford, Oregon, AZ…. Freakin’ awesome.

I’ll skip the good for now because so much of it is obvious. I’ll combine the bad and ugly all into one. It was the realization that playing week in and week out in a BCS/P5 conference truly takes a much stronger, better coached team than what we were. I thought we were going to take the Pac-12 by storm, we were better than most and could hold our own with the top of the conference.

We started out 0-4 in conference and Barry Switzer was right.

We lost our 1st Pac-12 game at USC but gave them all they could handle. We then stomped BYU 54-10 and I thought all was good. We then hosted Washington, our first home Pac-12 game. What a historical event. This game is sooooo won all we need to do is show up. Then we lose to ASU at home, Cal whipped the hell out of us at their place.

Next two years were rough, recruits we not banging down our door, our coaching staff was not ready and I think a lot of our fans were still stuck in the thinking I was in at the beginning and expectations were a little too high.
