This seems to be the neverending debate between fans, coaches and players alike. I am friends with one of the position coaches who coached at Utah in 2006/2007 (who has since moved on to bigger things) and he without fail would place the blame squarely on the players for not executing.
I understand the argument, and it has some validity for the first few years of a new regime, but imo, at the end of the day, there is no one left to blame other than the coaches for not winning. I think it’s disingenuous to continually blame 18-22 year olds for not doing something that they themselves are responsible for teaching/managing.
Much appreciation to Whitt for all that he’s accomplished during his time here, but if it doesn’t happen next year (i.e. at least a pac12 championship game), it’s time to move on.

Yikes. Terrible take. Whitt has had a MWC/low level P5 talent his whole PAC-12 tenure.
Last year he had a top 25 recruiting class.
Recruiting looks really solid so far this year as well.
To move on now? That would be dumber than BYU fan wishing Bronco would leave.
Whitt gets 4 more years AT A MINIMUM.

lol. k..

Who do you rreplace him with?

utahsportsguyParticipant
I don’t get paid to make that decision, but chip kelly or mark helfrich are good conversation starters.

Because Helfrich was so successful at Oregon?
-
RedLineParticipant
Because Chip Kelly wants a program that can’t afford him?

noneyadbParticipant
Helfrich and Kelly,,, lmao, one fired coach that turned a playoff team into a cesspool, and the other that left before NCAA could investigate him. Awesome choices PK.

newute50Participant
Helfrich????? Have you been watching college football for the past several years? Given the keys to a Ferrari and can’t even go the speed limit? Give me a break.
Can we get rid of this troll please?

It’s PK, what do you expect?

Red DonParticipant
As logical as those wanting to roll out Norm Chow in his wheelchair to replace TT. Whitt stays.

who let PK in? are we talking about that hater on 1280? I’d be ashamed of myself for using the words that best describe that…..

So let’s review the facts shall we. Utah joined the PAC 12 in 2011. In the first three years with mainly MWC level talent Whitt went 8-5 (in an admittedly down PAC12), 5-7 and 5-7. The next three years as the talent level has ramped up he had gone 9-4, 10-3, 9-4.
So after losing 13 players to graduation and early entry in the draft we are currently 4-3. I’m not going to play the injury card because everyone has injuries, we should have expected some kind of rebuilding this year. So this thing could collapse and we could end up 4-8, or the team could catch fire and we could go 9-3 (or 10-3 depending on a bowl game). I think most people expect us to be somewhere in the middle. So someone has to explain to me how this points to poor performance by either the staff or the players.

UtahParticipant
I like where you are going. Maybe I’ll start a new thread. In fact, I will.
