Honestly, it doesn’t matter. Whitt has had 2 OC’s that he has been successful with:
Ludwig and Norm Chow.
Chow ain’t coming back and Ludwig just left. No matter who the OC has been, it’s been the same. New OC comes in, tries to throw the ball more, the offense struggles for a game, Whitt shuts it down and we run the ball, win 9 games and Whitt fires the OC and we do it all over again.
The problem is 100% Whittingham. As long as he is the coach, we will have these problems because he has been the coach for 20 years and we have always had these problems.
Whitt will never allow his offense to compromise his defense.
2008 put it best when he said Whitt could have his offense with three possessions, 2 three and outs and a TD drive that take 5 mins off the clock or one possession that takes 9 mins off the clock and ends in a FG and Whitt will take the FG every time.
Whitt’s way has a high floor and a ceiling. We will beat teams that are less disciplined than us and teams we are more talented than, but the second we face a team with more talent (and motivated to beat us) they will win.
This is why he’s only won 3 conference championships in 20 years. This way makes him a lot of money, it keeps him employed, and keeps us off his back. But he won’t win it all because he will never be the most talented team in the conference or the country.
