At Whittingham’s press conference yesterday, he was asked if Rising could potentially come back for an 8th season next year.
Whitt’s reply, “That’s totally in Cam’s court. … He’s got time to decide what he wants to do.”
Wat??? You kiddin’ me?? IT’S ALL UP TO CAM??!? WhitMan, you da coach!! Your team is falling apart this year due to your terrible decisions and coaching! And you’re willing to play this tune again?
Count me OUT!!! -

IF he is even eligible for an 8th year (there is some debate on that)…
IF he could be fully healthy coming into Fall camp….
IF he won the starting job through a legitimate battle, NOT just given the job…
I say YES!!
After all, when healthy he…
IS the ONLY quarterback to EVER lead Utah to back to back Pac12 championships…
IS the ONLY quarterback to lead Utah to back to back Rose Bowl games…
IS a VERY good quarterback!!
IS better than our current, young and inexperienced quarterbacks.
And lastly, I trust Coach Whittingham’s judgement on this issue FAR MORE than me or anyone else on this board. No offense, be Whittingham IS the GOAT head coach in Utah History, regardless of how this season plays out and it’s not even debatable!

One more:
IF he is willing to come back at a major reduction in NIL $$.

This won’t be popular and will be hated for it, but I don’t care.
Whittingham will continue to drive the football program into the ground until there is no fanbase attendance, recruit pipeline will dry up having seen first hand what’s gone on for years and go play at BYU or some other Big12, B1G or SEC school. I fear some of you will be okay with that and go down with Whitt on a sinking ship.
I’d say we cut our losses (with Whitt and Rising) now and start rebuilding before it gets worse than it already is. Whitt reached his ceiling after Rising went down and didn’t recover and he won’t. He set in his ways and acts like nothing is wrong while players are fighting in the locker room.
Whitt just needs to retire at end of season and let Scalley start to lead this football program beginning this post season. Go UTES!

Very tempting to have Rising come back but considering he has never finished a season of college football it is no from me. At some point Utah has to think a little about the future and the future qb situation. Cam will always be remembered as one of the best Ute qb’s ever but all things have to come to an end.
If he came back to a qb battle with a new OC and little to no NIL money, why not? If I were him, I’d maximize my NIL dollars wherever I could.

Temptation comes before a fall. Rising needs to stay away from the game. His forty’s are going to be miserable.

I would prefer to get someone from the transfer portal who has more eligibility and is not made of glass.

Do we get him for the veterans minimum?

Time to move on from Rising. He’s an injury magnet. Case closed.

I still appreciate what Cam did for us 2 and 3 years ago.
That being said, the last two years were probably enough. I mean if he were 100% AND was here playing for the love of the game (and not a big NIL payday) so his focus was on LEADING the team then that would be a thing.
But that doesn’t appear to be reality. So no. It’s an interesting dream but so was this year…and it turned out being more of a nightmare. Not Cam’s fault. But it feels like we are now being held hostage to the IDEA of Cam rather than the reality of building a complete team with solid leadership. Whitt needs to drive the decision about the team not one player.

I’m seein’ a lot ‘ifs’ here in the comments.
Let me just say, “if ‘ifs’ and ‘buts’ were candy and nuts, then we would all have a Merry Christmas!”

AZUTEParticipant
He can come back with the understanding he’s a backup and basically no NIL.
If he wants to come back under those conditions then yes welcome back
-
TruckStopTerrorsParticipant
It’s time to move on. He can’t stay healthy and can’t be relied upon.
