Your avatar reminds me of the only thing I miss about Salt Lake. (Other than chatting with the missionaries assigned to Temple Square.)

Ok…Waking Owl Books and Squatter’s and Trent Harris and Alex Caldiero and the Salt Lake Roasting Company and Sam Weller’s and the Tower Theater and Bill & Nada’s and Sunstone…

But, certainly going to Temple Square and pretending I know nothing about the church, acting enthusiastic about the teachings, seeing how long I can extend a conversation with Sisters Sorenson and Smith, like Kitboga talking to a scammer, is always a good Saturday afternoon excursion.

I’m all for playing phone games with scammers who call you, but seeking out opportunities to be an “anti-scammer” seems a bit petty. I’m usually one of your most ardent defenders, but my downvotes were content related, not trolling downvotes. And I will always downvote for content not whether or not I like/dislike somebody. Troll downvotes to me is similar to seeking out Sister Missionaries on Temple Square to somehow boost your self esteem. Trolling in a different way.

If you need a good line for those Auto warranty maggots, tell them you drive a 1911 Ford Model T. They always ask if I have a more recent car, I tell them that’s my commuter car. And beg for a warranty extension.

*Full disclosure my daughter returned from Temple Square in March of 2022. I sure wish you’d tried to troll her, she would have verbally sparred with you rather quickly or just moved on. But I would have loved some popcorn for that encounter.

I think you have it all wrong. I don’t challenge the Sister Missionaries in any way. I provide an empty, willing vessel for them to fill with knowledge. I provide a practice human. Sometimes, they bring me to a theatre and play a movie for me.

And, if they are spending time me, that is less time that they are spending sharing the church with other people.

Okay if I have it all wrong, please help me better understand the following phrases:

                  “…pretending I know nothing…” “…acting enthusiastic…” “…seeing how long…” “like Kitboga talking to a scammer…”

In this situation you are the scammer NOT the scamee.

Then in your reply to say, “I provide an empty, willing vessel…” I’m throwing the Red BS Challenge flag.

You are free to feel however you want but I’ve shared my viewpoint. We can agree to disagree. I don’t need you to agree or even recognize my point. I have my Best Alternative to Negotiated Agreement (BATNA). This is my last post on the topic.

I never said I wasn’t scamming them. I am arguing that I do not spar with them as you suggest. I simply say the right things to keep the conversation going. Remember how excited you were when you were able to teach something other than the first discussion? They get that with me.

If they are talking with me, that’s time within which they are not talking to other people.

                    • #174057

I am far too dim to spar with someone.

I think I have related this story before about the Pie. I went back to Salt Lake for a conference about 8 years ago. I went to the Pie near campus. I ordered a slice and a salad. When my salad came out of the window, it was not piled high with shredded mozzarella. I went to the window confused and told them that they forgot the cheese on my salad. They looked puzzled. And, it made me depressed.
