There have been rumors/suspicions of a divided team – Team Huntley vs Team Williams
I think the coaches are trying to kill that divide by going exclusively with Huntley. If they play Williams, his side gets fuel for their fire. If they play Bateman it completely undermines a team captain and would add fuel to the Williams side in a different way.
I could be totally off base here, but what other possible reason could there be? I don’t buy that they wanted to give Tyler more reps. If that were true, he wouldn’t have been pulled against SJSU when he was much less experienced than he is now.

bruhhhh…..put the weed down

Whoa. If that’s true, that’s a crappy situation to be in.

Utah ran a few offensive formations that we haven’t seen. Maybe they just needed practice.

Uhhh Bateman??

Did you read the entire post?

Yeah that is what I am saying…..clarify.

UteThunderParticipant
I thought I clarified, but here you go.
Williams was named a captain, was the returning starter, and is the current backup. If there is a divide, and the coaches are trying to kill it by not playing Williams unless forced to do so, then playing Bateman in garbage time would have the Williams supporters even more upset because ‘their guy’ would really be getting the shaft in that scenario.

They already undermined TWilliams with starting Huntley when he was injured against ASU and Oregon. SO yeah put in Bateman.
-
UteThunderParticipant
That’s a possibility. But given that Huntley was cleared to play, I don’t think the team would see that as undermining TW. Putting in Bateman over Williams, however, is basically a giant middle finger to Williams and his buddies on the team.
I will say this, I was 100% in favor of putting in Bateman at the start of the 4th quarter.

I agree.
I don’t get the love affair for TW. He is mediocre at best.

Someone didn’t read the whole post before trying to be smart…

EagleMountainUteParticipant
Ok so you had an injury to your starter and put in your captain for two games. TWilliams gives you exactly what he has always given you. But if you believe what they are saying now is that even with not so 100% Huntley you still want to play Huntley over your Captain. No matter what you have caused the divide. Throwing in Bateman to take a beating and hand off to Moss is still not doing anything to TWilliams.(Don’t agree with playing Moss either).

They should make a Captain America: Civil War style movie about this one.

Red DonParticipant
I question why they voted Williams Captain in the first place. Wasn’t made the starting QB, for very obvious reasons, and from virtually everyone you hear is that Huntley is the leader on the team. Even the announcers agree on that.
At this point, I don’t even see William’s HS coach disagreeing with that.
