may miss the Florida game.
Good teams adjust and still figure out a way to win. I have confidence in Ludwig. I think he will prepare a game plan that will help the offense be successful. If Rising can’t go, I suspect that Barnes with be the starting QB and that there will be a number of plays where we will utilize Nate Johnson. From what I am hearing – I don’t think Kuithe will play. We will need to utilize other weapons like Yassmin, Pittman, Vele, Parks, et al. I hope we pass to Jackson out of the backfield 3-4 times in the game.
I believe we can win without Rising and Kuithe (if we have to).

Ute2Participant
I’m not expecting Kuithe to have a massive impact until the latter half to third of the season where I bet he’ll start coming on strong and looking like himself.
-
WhittyParticipant
Disappointing, but I think you’re probably right about Kuithe. I thought for sure he’d be back for game 1. However, it doesn’t seem like we’ve heard anything too positive about his progress

I’m beginning to think game one will be an ugly game for both teams. Our D will probably be the difference maker.
-
TednabParticipant
Depends on what D shows up .. beginning of last year the D looked abysmal
-
chinngiskhaanParticipant
Right, and I think that is why there was live contact on Rose during the scrimmage, because the tackling was assandballsack against Florida last year.
-

Our defensive performance in this game will be a complete 180 from last year.
UF will struggle to score points.

Two best proven players not necessarily the best this season.
I think Johnson starts and I also think JJ will be our best offensive weapon by year end.-
ProudUteParticipant
I have no problem with either prediction. I hope JJ becomes what you predict he will.
-
Central Coast UteParticipant
If not Rising, I hope you’re right about Johnson. What makes you think that?
-
EagleMountainUteParticipant
We all can accept Kuithe as having a recovery time and acclimation. Suggesting Rising might not be available until the same time frame and people lose their minds. At least that has been my experience.
I just don’t think Rising will be in game shape by week one or maybe week five. Risings ability to escape and extend plays is what makes him dynamic. We have plenty of examples where injury severely handicaps his game. Oregon being the most painful one for me.
Running’s backs and JJ hopefully are featured heavily this season.-
Central Coast UteParticipant
But what makes you think Johnson starts? Just a hunch or did you hear something?
-
EagleMountainUteParticipant
Hope. Plain ole hope.
I am obviously labeled as someone who hates Barnes for the simple fact of being from parts unknown Utah. That Penn state game was frustrating and Barnes was only a part of my frustration. I hope we Johnson.I have read rumblings that he was getting more snaps. Everyone forgets he wasn’t healthy in Spring.
-
Central Coast UteParticipant
Agreed. I only use Twitter and Ute Hub so haven’t heard Johnson is taking more reps. I’m glad to hear it.

I hope Rising makes it but if it posses a risk to his recovery then it’s just not worth it. I’d be fine with him missing significant time if that’s what it takes.
It also wasn’t long ago when I was getting flamed and mass thumbs downed for even suggesting that Cam could potentially, even very possibly, miss time. Weird how everything changed quite suddenly…
-
TednabParticipant
Lol .. are you looking for validation
-
EagleMountainUteParticipant
I think most are just looking for good ole fashion logic.
It is the same with the defense of Barnes being named number two. I am fine with him being number two to all of the other qb’s. Just because his story is emotionally compelling doesn’t make him a better game time qb. -
RoboUteParticipant
No, I’m pointing out that reality has validated me.
Though I still hope he’s recovering well enough to play. I think him playing at 70% is a worst case scenario and I’m nervous about how likely it is.
