Holladay UteParticipant
If you were a BYU fan, just think about this…your best team in 15 years barely beat what is arguably our worst team in 10-15 years and…
1) Our backup QB was making his first career start.
2) We switched OCs three weeks ago.
3) They scored a kickoff TD. Credit to them on a great play, but these are always pretty fluke.
4) Two gift-wrapped INTs that weren’t even good plays on the ball by the defense (both of which led to FGs). One was a throw on a trick play where a guy who hasn’t played all year just decided to lob it into quadruple coverage after thinking about it for 5 seconds (needed him to use his brain there). The other on a miscommunication between the QB and WR on the route (likely a function of a new QB and OC).
5) Don’t forget that Kuithe (who produced two of our TDs) left the game fairly early in the second half.
6) Two BYU fumbles that bounced right into the hands of BYU players. Either one of those bounces a little differently, game over.
7) One of the most controversial bail-out calls I can ever remember in this rivalry. We’re all obviously biased, but that was ridiculous. So weak. They almost never make those calls and they decided to make it in that situation?! Was there contact? Yes (and within the first five yards of the line of scrimmage, mind you). Contact like that happens repeatedly throughout every football game. Refs have been letting WRs and DBs go at it all year in the B12 (including this game). For the first time in as long as I can remember, Whitt criticized the officials, which just goes to show how bad of a call that was. That play cost us the game, but the D still should’ve been able to win it for us after that. Just felt like that call kind of sucked the energy out of the players and team after we all went on the emotional roller coaster of thinking we won (twice) and then suddenly having to quickly move on. -

Not my favorite POV but I get your point. In the end it’s not how, it’s how many.

Tbh brotha, as long as BYU notches another digit in the win column, I don’t really care how it came. A win is a win. Utah played a hell of a game last night, and BYU was lucky to get out of there.

Central Coast UteParticipant
Ted Lasso is correct. Style points no longer matter, especially for the B12. We’re only getting one team in the cfp, regardless of who the champ beats, and by how many points. All you have to do is win the ccg.

It’s eerie the amount of things that went wrong for Utah and went right for BYU. The fumble bouncing right into his arms as he was tackled was absurd. The almost pick 6 toward the end of the game. The awful penalties at the worst times, this just felt like a bad team who can’t get a break. BYU seems like a decent team who has gotten every break this year. Give them credit, they took advantage of the breaks. This does feel like the end of an era for Utah football. We need a huge change in offensive philosophy, which won’t change until Whittingham is gone.

Gross.

I had a friend who had a close family member pass away unexpectedly this week and him and his family are all big byu fans so if nothing else I’m happy they can have something to celebrate while dealing with such a terrible situation. The loss still hurts, but this is helping me keep perspective

Their season this year completely reminds me of our 2008 season. Kudos to them and Sitake. Our situation in the suck isn’t really tied to them.
-
Central Coast UteParticipant
Agreed. Sitake needs to learn something about clock management if they really want to compete at a high level. I guess just getting to the cfp might be good enough.

They don’t give a s**t. They jack off to their 1984 season even though their best win was over a 6-6 Michigan team with their 3rd string QB…and even then BYU barely beat them.
They cream the hardest when their success is the cheapest. They get to stroke themselves talking about magic and Jesus and all that other bulls**t.
This is perfect for them.

How many times in 2004, 2008, 2021, and 2022 did things just go Utah’s way? Enjoy the ride when your team has a special season and hope for the best when they have a crappy one.
