Our defense is keeping us in games, giving us opportunities to win every game.
The defense clearly has not quit. Scalley has clearly kept them engaged and motivated.
If we think we’re embarrassed now, we lose the defense, this will get blowout loss ugly. A blowout loss might count the same as a close loss, but if we lose the team completely we’re more likely to have players streaming for the portal just like fans to the exits.
Need everyone in that building to be accountable, humble and find something to play for to take this in the better direction. Otherwise, it could actually get worse.

Well, here’s the other thing…the defense has kept us in the game but we’ve been playing cupcakes. Also, keep in mind that last night’s game was only in doubt because Houston shot itself in the foot TWICE within the shadow of the goal line. They get any points out of those drives and the game is over sooner rather than later. I additionally want to see how the defense plays against the high-powered attacks of BYU, Iowa State, and, specifically, Colorado.

Don’t harsh my mellow Miami.

Sorry brother, but occasionally you have to look at the way things are instead of the way you wish them to be.

To be fair, one of those “shooting themselves in the foot” ended up a TD for Houston anyway. Yeah, Utah stopped them, but then got no yardage, and had a net 21 yard punt, meaning Houston started inside the Utah 30.
So that one really only delayed the score, more than taking a score away

I thought it was Wilson’s fumble/pick?
-
krindorParticipant
*Wilson fumbled, Houston got the ball at the Utah 28
*Utah defense held Houston at the 1
*Utah had a 3 and out, punted for net 21 yards
*Houston got the ball at the Utah 23 and scored a touchdownPoint being, anyone selling that goal-line stand as “And Houston almost had another 7!” is ignoring that it kept Houston in great field position for that next score.
That’s why I was saying it’s more accurate to say the goal line stand delayed a touchdown, more than prevented it. If the offense had moved the ball, it could have been prevented, but Houston eventually capitalized on the Wilson fumble.

Thanks. The poor plays were coming so fast it was hard to remember the order

“The defense clearly has not quit. Scalley has clearly kept them engaged and motivated.“ Another great sign for our future HC.

TrailgoatParticipant
The defense is doing very well considering the complete lack of production from the offense and the amount of time they spend on the field following 3 and outs on almost every offensive possession.
-
AnferneeParticipant
And mentally knowing you held the opponent to under 20 again and it’s not enough. Hell 14 isn’t enough.

It could be raining!
