ParticipantUtah transfer Pelle Larsson has committed to Arizona, a source told ESPN. The Swedish guard, a versatile defender and passer who shot 46% for 3 last season, picked the Wildcats over the likes of Kansas, Stanford, Creighton and others. Has four years of eligibility remaining.

Waiting for the last shoe to drop… Carlton???

ParticipantBut but but Smith is awesome he just needs 18 months to 2 years to get settled in and really start recruiting

BlockedGreater than 1/3 of those who answered the current poll were not willing to say they approved of this hire.

ParticipantHe’s been on the job 40 days now and recently filled out his staff. I’ll reserve judgement until the roster is complete.

AZUTE
ParticipantSo how long before we should expect results?
6 months?
A year?
10 years?
Cause that’s how long we waited for LarrySome Coaches who were hired by other programs after Smith are already pulling in major recruits from the portal.
But somehow in your world Smith gets a free pass until an appropriate amount of time has passed

ParticipantI can’t have a conversation with someone who cannot differentiate between 40 days and 10 years.

AZUTE
ParticipantYou can’t have a conversation because you don’t have answer to my question.
Your passive aggressive answer is only proof of that.
How long should we wait before we expect some results from smith?

ParticipantAre you wanting to fire him before the season starts? Last I checked the transfer portal is still open. He filled out his staff and has brought in 4 transfers, now he’s going after some high level guys and that takes some time. His staff was just completed last week. You’re acting like the spoiled kid that wants the new toy NOW As you scream and throw a baby fit.

ParticipantI’ll answer it, three years. That gives him time to get his guys in and in his system.
If we were talking football, i would give him longer. But for BBall, 3 should do it.

Participant@AZUTE – your post does not make sense. You ask how long before we should expect results, then pose a range between 6 months and 10 years, then say “that’s how long we waited for Larry.” What does that even mean?
Larry had 10 years. He did not meet expectations. He should have been fired sooner, but there was a huge buyout. Larry was correctly retained for about 7-8 years, but at that point, it was becoming clear that he had maxed out.
Barring an absolute debacle, a coach should have 3 years (IMO). At that point, you can see the trajectory of the program. That is not to say that the coach needs to be winning championships at 3 years, but there needs to be an upward trajectory and the foundation for a solid program.
Again, barring an absolute debacle, a coach should always be given more than a year. Larry had an AWFUL first year, but I think we all were fine with that. A coach needs three years to get “his guys” and build the type of program and mentality in the program that he wants.

ParticipantI don’t wish him all the best.

ParticipantThis one hurts. Pelle was the one player I hoped we could hang onto. He’s the type of talent at point guard that a team could be built around. Seeing Arizona get him especially sucks.
Change can be painful but in the case of Larry K it was definitely necessary. Not sure if Smith will be the guy to take us to the next level but his recent track record sure warrants the opportunity. Go Utes!

ParticipantAnd if the NCAA finalizes sanctions against Arizona Pelle may never sniff a NCAA Tournament.

ParticipantDon’t hold your breath on the sanctions. Grand Canyon State College will recieve the death penalty, Arizona a slap on the wrist.

Participant“Upside”, “Potential” is about all that can be said about most of the transferring players. Last two years were basically losing seasons taking out the Weber, UVU, and Idaho X2 games that should not count. LK’s 15-22 and 8th place both years in the P12. Maybe it’s a good thing all these guys are gone. Program is an overhaul. Need to give Smith and his staff a couple years to right the ship.
