Thoughts about who plays in game one

I would love to see Covey on the field on August 29th. However, I am beginning to feel that he should wait to play until the USC game.  It doesn’t sound like he is 100%.  I don’t think it’s worth the risk. 

I don’t believe that Bam will be ready to be a full time player by August 29. I can’t see how he could possibly could learn the playbook, timing, etc. by then.  I would however play him in some situations; i.e. third and short, goal line plays, etc. In these situations, he simply needs to blow his guy away.

No one is saying anything about Moss  Will he be ready to play?  I hope so.  We need him.  I believe we have some solid backups, but only DHC has much game experience and he hasn’t played in two years.  I think in time, a couple of these guys will develop into very good players.  I just don’t know if they are ready yet  

I hope we have some backup linebackers ready to in two weeks.

I dont think Covey plays. Just listening to him talk makes it seem like he doesn’t even think he will be ready and I’m with you on Bam. It sounds like he is kind of a raw talent to begin with and it will take time for him to learn the playbook. Not to mention he’s not even cleared yet to play in games.

Moss is a different story. I don’t think there really is any legitimate concern with him not playing. As for the running backs behind, several of them have game experience. Brumfield, Green, and DHC have all played significant time.

Jordan Wilmore will be Moss’s backup when the dust settles.  He is a stud.

Covey will run some low contact routes. It is that important to him. He will not return punts, likely not even fair catch some. Someone else needs to get some reps there.

Bam will play if the 2s come into the game with a comfortable lead. I expect they will

Moss is staying safe, only there if he is ready to go. The other RBs will not be a letup. It will be interesting to see how much success the RBs have in the middle with new folks on the OL.

As far as Bam goes, Whitt said Maea is starting at LG so Bam is not starting.
