I was driving back to town yesterday and had the chance to listen to about 4 hours of media day interviews on the radio.  Here are a couple of my thoughts:

      – Herm Edwards is very arrogant; not about his team, but about himself.  He said if he was playing in the pass happy NFL today he would get at least 60 interceptions.

      – I know Coach Helton is on the hot seat and many don’t like him.  He was very pleasant in his interview and seems like a nice guy.  He was very complimentary of Utah.

      – Coach Sumlin seems clueless.  He admitted that they got their butts kicked by the Utes.

      – I was impressed with the Moss interviews and Anae is not a great interview IMO.  Anae is a fantastic player and that’s what matters.  Anae did say that the biggest trash talking last year came from the USC O-line.

      –  KW seemed loose with the local media and he typically is not that way.  I suspect that all changes once the season starts.  He seemed high on the progress of the wide receivers and is hopeful that Covey will be 100% by game 1.

      – I was impressed with many of the players who attended.  Most had good things to say about Utah.  Many were recruited by Utah.

      – The common statements made about the Utes from the other players and coaches were – they are always physical and well prepared.

      – I heard from a few sources how deep the Utes are at RB

      – Cal’s coach seems a lot like KW.  The game with Cal may end up 13-7.

Bytheway, I am totally supportive of morning games.  I am a morning person and would love morning games.  It would end up being a 10:00 AM MST starting time.  I would much rather have a 10:00 AM starting time than an 8:30 PM starting time.  However, I understand that it’s different for everyone.  It works well for me, but I understand it may not be convenient for others.  KW likes the idea as well.

      Go Utes!!!

Most Utah fans would love morning games.  Basically you tailgate overnight.  Bloody Mary’s for breakfast.

I agree.  I love getting up on Saturday morning and watching Pitt play at 9-9:30am.  It’s great having games on that early.

You will be getting up at 6-7 am to make it to the stadium. I also wonder how the muss would do at 9 am.

Very typical for UofM (largest stadium on America) fans to get up at 6 am for noon game.  I know it’s different in Utah but when they say its game day it’s literally game DAY in A2.

            tailgate from 8-12

            Game at noon

            post game tailgate from 4-?

What does everyone make of Kyle’s comment that Ludwig will be his last OC? I think it can be taken one of two ways:

The good news way: Kyle is going to lock Ludwig up and never let him leave.
The bad news way: Kyle is retiring very soon.

If it is the latter, what are the chances we hire a big-time coach?

Don’t think the Utah AD (forgot his name) is dynamic enough to get a big time coach. He’ll probably play it safe and ask somone he knows will say yes – and give it to scally.

Yeah, I mean while at USF Harlan hired Charlie Strong, Willie Taggart, and Skip Holtz.  He’s CLEARLY not able to take a risk.

He’s no Dr. Chris Hill – that’s for sure.

He seems like a path of least resistance type of guy.

They way he bent over and took it up the …. regarding scheduling byu-p from now until eternity.

We’re should be thankful he’s no Chris Hill. He’s an upgrade.

Don’t think it’s a matter of ego as you suggest but Scally would be awesome. Whitt 2.0 sand a Utah man!

He once told a small group of people that he didn’t want to be coaching in his sixties.

Beware if the Utes win the Rose bowl.

High note exit I totally get it. Would be nice to have a few recruiting cycles after that though with him. Plus the SEZ.

He told a lot of people that, especially after his dad died so young.

I just happened to be at one such event when he said that. It wasn’t like a joke either. You could tell.

I am a big fan of Clay Helton. He is a wonderful and kind person. And he is a solid coach.

Luckily for the rest of the conference USC is such a messed up program that nobody can succeed there.
