A decade in the P5 already. There are Ute fans who don’t remember the MWC or the WAC.

I have to admit that I miss our former WAC partner schools. I was saddened when the Wyoming game was cancelled.

I’ve noted a few times one of my fondest early memories of Ute football was the 1981 game in Rice Stadium where Wyoming (who had earlier beat BYU in a Laramie blizzard and was on track for a WAC title) came in and brought about 5000 loud and supportive fans.   The north end zone BOOMED the Dubya-Why-Oh cheer throughout the game.  One the best atmospheres for any game I’ve attended.  Utah won that one by a field goal.

Another great atmosphere was when Wyoming beat UCLA in the Hunty in the tourney a few years later.  I was at that one and joined in with the Dubya-Why-Oh chants.

U of U athletics maybe. Getting an invite the AAU was a very great day for the U as a whole.

Credit to the foresight of the administration. Associating with other AAU schools in the conference makes membership in their other clubs easier. Thankfully our academic profile was already trending up.

Totally agree. And I would argue that the AAU invite would never have happened had we not been invited to join the PAC 12. That single event changed everything for athletics as well as academics.
