From a fan perspective, I don’t think the NIL/Portal system is that much different from recruiting in general.
There are many high school recruits that never even see the field. Most fans probably don’t even follow recruiting all that closely. I actually think that more people are paying attention to portal comings and goings than they ever did for recruiting (outside the big catches).
At the end of the day, the games will still be played with the same rules (more or less) and the same number of players. Most of us enjoy the games more than recruiting and the coaching carousel.
Recruiting/coaching changes are interesting for off-season entertainment, but I am more interested in the on field product. College football teams change so much from year to year already; this shouldn’t be new to the fans.
I think Utah fans should be more upset about the lack of communication from the team/coaches: no more public practices, no injury information (or straight up false information), etc. This hurts the fan experience more than NIL or the portal.
