John Pease thinks it’s Rose Bowl or bust…
I DON’T think Utah does either…BUT, I think if I’m a coach, I get in the Pease bandwagon and start preaching Rose Bowl or bust. Why? Because you will fail. AND if your team is as good as everyone thinks/hopes and the leadership is where it should be, then they will take that failure and work twice as hard the next offseason and we will have a rip-roaring of a team come 2019.
2019 is the year of Utah…BUT, start believing now.

What year is the Rose Bowl played in? So yeah I agree 2019.

UtahParticipant
Nice.

09/15/2018 that is when we will know if this team has what it takes.

Is that Washington? If so, I agree. I think the biggest games for Utah this fall are Arizona and Washington. I won’t accept any other answer.
Beating Arizona is the difference between a 7 win season and a 9 win season.
I think that is the most important game. If we can’t be Arizona, we probably start out 3-4 and that would be a disasterous start.
BUT, the Washington game is a close second. Maybe 1B.
We have two preseason games before hand. Northern Ill is tough, but shouldn’t be for a team that expects to win 9+ this year. Then Washington. We have ALL OFFSEASON to prepare for them.
THEN, we have a bye week right after. So, you can leave it all on the field and then regroup afterwards.
While losing to Washington won’t sink our season like a loss to Arizona would, beating Washington should be expected AND sets us up for a 2 loss regular season, which puts us in contention for the PAC-12 title game.
Lose to Washington and you aren’t winning the PAC-12. The schedule is just too tough. We have it too easy leading up to that game.
BUT, if you lose to Washington and beat Arizona, you can still win 9 games and finish ranked.
So, I have Arizona as the 1A most important game and Washington as 1B.

Utah beat Arizona last year at their place with a mediocre team. Why wouldn’t they win at home in 2018? I would argue if they lose to Arizona, it won’t even be a 7-win season.
Utah nearly beat Washington in Seattle in 2017. It was nearly their “won one they shouldn’t have” game. If only they hadn’t given up 10 points in the last minute via some Jake Browning magic. In 2018, no doubt it will be a hard fought game, but it is at home this time…

EagleMountainUteParticipant
There will be a WTF loss this season. We all know it. Which one will it be??
-
PlainsUteParticipant
Agreed, but if we could predict ahead of time it wouldn’t be a WTF loss.
I suppose you could look for a “trap” game … perhaps at UCLA 6 days after playing USC at home or maybe at Colorado after playing Oregon at home. None of the Pac12 games this year are gimmies that would really be called WTF losses.
-
EagleMountainUteParticipant
Speculation is what this thread is all about. That tds game in November is like perfect for a trap. I am so disappointed of that game being scheduled there.

This.

No. No WTF loss this year. No more WTF losses, ever.
