BYU D was playing mostly Cover 3 and Cover 4 throughout the game, which given our desire for the first 3 quarters to constantly try throwing the deep ball was a good call on their part and totally explains why nobody was ever open (becuase they had more defenders downfield than we had receivers). As soon as we started going to hot reads and 5-6yd underneath routes we magically moved the ball. So it wasn’t just Covey, NOBODY was open for nearly 3 quarters because we kept playcalling right into the strengths of their schemes. TT finally adjusted on the 3rd qtr drive where we got the Nacua TD reception.
