I feel like the state of Utah is simply not paying attention. Back in 2013 and 2014 everyone was talking about the Lone Peak 3 (Mika, Emery, Haws) Talking heads were predicting multiple sweet 16’s and more. For a variety of reasons, that never materialized. BYU had Three 4 Star kids and everyone was going nuts.
Even without JJ next year, Larry will have Five 4 Star kids that are all Freshmen and Sophomores. With a couple of high level 3 stars like Battin and Tillman and we are pretty well set for the next 3 years minimum.
I’m not predicting a deep tourney run next year because of our youth, but years 2 and 3 of this core will absolutely make some runs at PAC12 ships and the NCAA tourney. This is the best young core Utah has had since the mid 90’s!

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, the cupboard looks like this every year. And every year we’re starting from scratch because of transfers.

Larry can get the talent here, but he hasn’t shown me he can keep the talent here.

Give me a couple years of no transfers of significant impact (because it will never go totally to zero in this day and age), and then I’ll start drinking your brand of Kool Aid.

so far we haven’t had any bad news in terms of who is transferring/staying. Jayce is a bit of a bummer, but he did very little for us that virtually any other 7 footer couldn’t do.

Jayce sucks. Don’t mind him leaving at all.

Yet you slurp the kwhitt koolaid like a porn star.  At least be consistent.

Both Coach K and Kwhitt have about the same winning %.  Coach K has some issues with transfers ad kwhitt has issues with the throw game and OC’s.

Winning percentage may be similar, but I believe Whit has outperformed Coach K.

Utah hoops has too many losses to many “lesser” teams over the past few years. And the NCAA tourney drought is tough to swallow (in part because of the WTF losses). Like it or not, the thing most college hoops fans care about is having their team part of March Madness (who cares if you finish third in conference if you aren’t dancing?).

I do not believe Coach K should be fired, but I do think he needs to get back to the Dance next year or there will be serious questions. IMO, Utah hoops should be in the NCAA tourney at least 50% of the time, with the remaining time in NIT/CBI and maybe 1 or 2 years out of 10 there is a crap-year rebuilding effort and no post-season. Coach K is not far from that metric, but if there is no NCAA Tourney bid next year, that will be 4 years in a row…not a good trajectory and not good enough in my opinion.

Two different animals. You might as well compare the chess team’s winning percentage to the swim team.

“Keeping the talent here” is indeed most critical.  For whatever reason, many promising players end up leaving after a short time here, then flourishing at another program.

Actually, the cupboard has never looked this good. Utah has landed eight 4 stars players in the last 16 years. That’s 1 ever other year. To have 2 last year and 3 coming in this year is extraordinary! Now, they need to stay, and develop, but this is the best young group in decades.
