Utah changed their nickname from “Redskins” back in 1972. They changed it TO Utes to make it LESS offensive. If you are offended, that’s your problem, not the university’s. If they have to change their nickname, then so does San Diego State. The Aztecs are a Native American Tribe too. They’re just native to Mexico and not the USA.

It’s not the same thing as the Aztecs.  The Aztecs are an extinct tribe, so there’s nobody left to be outraged by it.  The Utes are not.  Utah’s situation is more akin to Florida St’s, as we both have the approval of our respective native american tribes.

Yeah Aztecs would not work, because it’s a Mexican tribe, and TRUMP would not approve of it. He would try to build a wall between SL county and Utah county and make the Mormons pay for it.

The Utah KOALA BEARS would be perfect, no other NCAA team uses that name, plus koala bears are tough little basterds. We would get huge national exposure.

I figured it out! how about “The Utah aborigine” the only once butt hurt about this name would be T.hackett and people 10,000 miles away. This would also free up some scholarships at the U.
