The line swing. We are now 10 point dogs at Colorado. That swing indicates issues.

RoboUteParticipant
Issues, you say? Is Utah football experiencing issues at the moment? What dark magic has unsealed these secrets never meant for the light of day?
-
KellsoParticipant
Ha ha. Shall I say new issues this week?

I’ve lived in Colorado since 2015 and have gone to every Utah at CU game during that span. I just can’t do it this weekend. I can’t watch those pricks, especially #2 and #21 flex on my Utes. Their “fans” are intolerable too. I hate to pass on this one, but I just can’t do it. Maybe I’ll go to Trans-Siberian Orchestra at Ball Arena and try to get into some Holiday spirit since my College Football Spirit is down.

I’ve never minded Colorado fans but I’ve heard stories of how things were a long time ago

You know your football program is in bad shape when Trans-Siberian Orchestra is a better option.

Mannheim Steamroller maybe, but TSO?

Decades ago I saw Mannheim Steamroller “live” in concert. They lip synced everything. They were all a bunch of fakers! Very disappointing.

Funny how a slight whiff of success after a long period of failure turns some fan bases into raving idiots. I mean, you’d think Colorado fans would know that the entirety of their success is based on one single point of failure, that’s Deion Sanders, and that his expiration date is essentially this season. I know, and all of my Florida homies know, that Deion Sanders is not a Colorado guy and is only there as long as Shadeur and Shiloh are around. In that sense, Colorado is the useful idiot which Deion is using to burnish his brand. I fully expect that developments will take place after this season. I mean, there are at least four of five SEC coaches on the hot seat that could get canned this offseason. It wouldn’t surprise me to see Deion get one of those jobs and then it’s Sayonara to Colorado.

I’m with you (maybe not to TS orchestra ;)). I’ve been here since 2009 and gone to all the CSU/CU games Utah has played in. I’m not getting up early with a $170 ticket to see the Sandereses + 1 play for their bandwagon fans. Just 2 years ago, got $25 tickets 3rd row behind the visitor bench.
I still think Utah defense will slow down the prime train, but we’ll need to score at least 28 points to win and Bottari/Wilson don’t have enough for MB to not face 8 in the box.

Hey I got those $25 dollar tickets as well. Maybe we saw each other there. JK Too bad our friends left after we got to 35 points. LOL I’m still laughing he made that deal with his wife. Honey we’ll leave after Utah scores 35. Little did he know it would be 1st half.
I’ve only had one bad year with CU fans, and it may be the same reason this year. It was the year they went to the P12 CG. And I too will pass on the $175 tickets to see this game.

Exactly.
His Alma mater at FSU. If he wants it it’s his but it’s ACC for now so maybe..
He wants Florida?
I still think U$C is a natural fit for him.
The list is long and Colorado is not even on the last page.

All those Colorado fans will be Florida State fans this time next year!

That’s a no…but only because FSU gave Mike Norville one of the longest and financially biggest extensions in the history of college football this past offseason. If they were to fire him after this season, they’d be on the hook for around $80M…even they wouldn’t be able to swallow such a large amount.

I remembered this post when I came across this article today. Norvell’s buyout is 64 MM and change.
For me, the math would be what revenue do I lose by keeping him employed and when that number is greater than or equal to his current buyout number I pull the trigger. I’m just going to throw some numbers out as an example because the exact value of the variables don’t matter, it’s just a way to set a baseline for ROI. And since I don’t want to research things right now, I’m going to assume making the playoffs is worth 10 MM for the school (it might be graduated based on games played, it might be higher or lower, I’m just not sure) and 1 MM for making the CCG.
Norvell makes 10 MM per plus there’s another 1.55 available in incentives. So for this example, Norvell would have to make the CCG and playoff every year to break even on his salary. I’ll assume that a 10-2 Florida State should make the CCG every year and would be ranked in the top 10. This would qualify as my lowest break even point for record as you can’t anticipate whether losing the CCG would put FSU low enough in the rankings to not get an at-large one year while 9-4 might be enough in a different year.
So without getting any deeper in the weeds, it comes down to how many years of the remaining on his contract do I think he will not be able to meet that threshold. Multiply it by 11. Add budgeted cost of his replacement for those same years to buyout. Compare. His replacement may not meet that threshold either in those same years but I’ve already decided that Norvell isn’t capable so I don’t worry about that.
There are certainly other variables like anticipated loss of donations but I just wanted to provide a high level example.

Haven’t we all accepted that this season may have exposed one or two issues within the program? It is the roller coaster ride of being a sports fan. Like many of you I will still watch the Colorado game and hope for the unexpected.
