ParticipantHow about a round of applause for our Ute skiers?

KeymasterHELL YEAH! We are a ski school!

ParticipantWe are officially a skiing DYNASTY…if it wasn’t for last year’s fluke loss to Colorado, Utah would be on a six year winning streak.

ParticipantThe streak would be even longer than that if COVID hadn’t happened. The 2020 natty was in the bag with 1 race remaining when COVID cancelled it on the final day.

KeymasterI’ve had the opportunity to meet many of the skiers on the team. They’re all such solid individuals.

RedRocks
ParticipantIt would be more difficult to ski if you were a liquid.

ParticipantCongratulations! I don’t follow ski events of the Utes, but once in awhile I watch some of the Olympic events and some of the world ski events.
Are there any ski team members who can compete on the world stage?
-
NarfUte
ParticipantYes, some do. For example our best men’s nordic skier missed some of the season because he was in the FIS cross country world cup

Speaking for the alpine side, yes. We routinely have skiers miss regular season events for World Cup races. That helps explain how we finished 3rd at the Denver University Invitational and yet we went on to win the natty.
Last year, Madison Hoffman entered 9 World Cup races. She only competed twice for Utah.
A fun personal anecdote: When I was a ski racer in my high school years, my points were good enough to qualify me for the US Ski Team developmental squad. But when I inquired about skiing at Utah, my points were not good enough to even be considered for Utah’s team. And the gap was not razor thin. Yes…it’s easier to make the bottom rung of the US Ski Team than it is to make Utah’s team. That’s how high-level Utah is.

ParticipantI just went to the Big 12 website and they don’t even list skiing in their sports. LOL. I did see that with this win, Utah has the most championships of any school other than Oklahoma State, which has almost two times that Utah does. Whoa!
