It is sad to say, but we have forgotten the proud tradition of Utah basketball.
– Utah is the 11th winningest basketball program in NCAA history (only bested in the PAC 12 by UCLA). This reaches beyond Majerus. Utah has a history of winning.
– Utah is among the top 25 teams in NCAA tournament appearances (again, more than every team in the PAC 12 save UCLA)
– Utah is the 16th highest team in Sweet 16 appearances (more than Michigan, Ohio State, Maryland, Georgetown, Texas, and every PAC 12 team other than Arizona and UCLA)
– Utah has a national championship
– Larry K is one of the top 10 highest paid basketball coaches in NCAA basketball. The other nine coaches make the tournament–and make runs in the tournament–almost every year (Duke, Kentucky, Ohio State, Kansas, Michigan State, Arizona, WVU, Michigan, Indiana).
We should not settle for anything less than: (1) consistent top three finishes in the PAC, including winning the conference from time to time; (2) making the tournament at least every other year, if not better; and (3) teams that advance in the tournament on a regular basis. We are selling ourselves short.
