ParticipantUmmm… I get the brothers thing, but we have oodles of depth at that position already.

ParticipantTo clarify, I’m happy to have him, I just don’t understand it from the Ute coach perspective.

ParticipantWith Fotu gone on his mission, Utah only has two game tested LB’s on the roster. Assuming Josh is as good as he looked this spring at UW, he can start next to Lloyd on day 1 and allow Sewell to play the rover spot he excelled at last year.
Yes, Utah brought in a half dozen LB’s in this class but it was always going to be a stretch to think they were going to be ready to go this year. Lloyd will go pro after 2021 and Sewell may be on his last year of eligibility so Josh provides a nice bridge w/o having to rush any of the freshman.
Utah just picked up a guy who many thought would play as a true freshman at UW. You don’t pass up high reward, low risk guys.

ParticipantI’m ready for an all LB defense package 🤣. You can never have enough depth

ParticipantCan never have too many 4 star athletes on your team. Josh was also a pretty good QB and Safety at Oaks Christian, so he’s the type of athlete you can move around a bit. Redshirted 2019, covid 2020, so he still has a lot of eligibility left, and likely has a lot of upside that hasn’t been shown.

ParticipantThat is three 4-star transfers in the last 2 days. I like 4-stars….

ParticipantWow, that was unexpected. UW seems to be losing a lot of players.

ParticipantI was thinking the same thing wonder what’s going g on up there.

ParticipantI think a lot of it has to do with competition or not promised promotion as a player that they expected.

Participantmore “natural roster attrition” than anything. McKinney was a career backup at UW who really only played special teams and garbage time safety. He got passed up by 2 true freshmen in 2019.
Calvert was part of a 4 iLB recruiting class. There were never going to be enough snaps to go around when running a 2 LB base D and none of the 4 had made it on the field in the last 3 years.
Giving everyone a free transfer is going to mean a lot more movement as kids seek out what they think is their best opportunity. UW has actually had very little transfer activity. If you look up Utah in the Portal, they almost need a 2nd page at this point.

ParticipantMy guess is we either put him at Safety or OLB. Whatever it is, I’m STOKED for this!!!
