KiYi-UteParticipant
Looks like some fans added a little bit of red to the cougar statue at LES.
Not sure how I feel about this. My initial reaction was to chuckle about it. But the more I think about it, it just makes us look bad. For as much as we say we’re “above” this rivalry, we sure don’t act like it at times. I’m guilty of it as well.Oh well, only one thing matters today: a big win down south. -

Not cool.

UteFanaticParticipant
I don’t care about the “vandalism”, haven’t BYU fans done this exact same thing to Utah?
I do, however, have a problem with a section of our fanbase who claims this isn’t a rivalry anymore. This week has proven, beyond a shadow of a doubt that the rivalry is still alive and well.
A alot of Utah fans who lived through the 70s and 80s will never get over BYU and that’s fine. We just need to embrace the fact that they are our rivals and quit trying to claim we are above the rivalry. Yes, we have a nice winning streak going, but the games have been mostly competitive.

Hopefully it’s just water soluable paint. I’m sure the zoobs will cry a river about this and get all self riteous about it, until they come up here and paint the U blue. Then that’s ok.
-
UteThunderParticipant
They all applauded the prank someone pulled earlier this year, changing “Imagine U” on Mount Van Cott to read “P***y U” or whatever it was.

COFfrom83Participant
not some fan, some moron. I don’t care if they have done it to us, we are better than that. I remember years ago some idiot zoob spray painting big blue Y s into the sandstone columns in front of the admin building at the head of University Circle. That does not justify us looking as petty and childish as the zoobs.
wouldn’t surprise me if it was a zoob who painted the cougar red at rice eccles south aka LES in an attempt to make us look bad
-
UteFanaticParticipant
Sadly, there is a small number of our fans that are not “better than that.” It’s OK, every fanbase has its losers.
-
AnonymousParticipant
Yup…idiocy does not discriminate.
-
AlaskanUteParticipant
Believe me, there has been a whole lot worse done over the years by both fan bases. Nowadays, snowflakes will be snowflakes.
-
AnonymousParticipant
I don’t need to believe you. I graduated in 1994 and have played and been around college sports — have seen a ton of sh!t. I couldn’t careless if the fan is a U or Y graduate. If you are a scumbag, then you need to go…snowflakes or not.

I wouldn’t be surprised at all.

EagleMountainUteParticipant
I really doubt a Utefan did it.
-
Tony (admin)Keymaster
I wonder if there is any security camera footage so we can see if a zoob did this to make the utes look bad, or if it was in fact a moron who likes the utes.
-
Ute BcParticipant
This has been going on for years on both sides. I say nice work UTES and to anyone who’s offended – so sorry go to a safe place.
Honestly we live in a land of uptight pussies.-
PorterRockwellParticipant
Exactly. Much ado about nothing. Happens all over the country.
-
UtahParticipant
Amen. Good hell people. Quit being so uptight and enjoy life.
-
ironman1315Participant
So you support vandalism if BYU did the SAN thing to us?
-
Ute BcParticipant
It’s a college prank. Yes I support them.
-
EagleMountainUteParticipant
Didnt they have to protect the U up on Van Cott back in the day??
-
-
UtahParticipant
I’d expect our kids to be out there guarding our stuff, having fun, maybe drinking and grabbing ass.
Life is hard. When have a chance to enjoy yourself, do it.
Also, it sounds like it just washes right off.
This is the definition of not a big deal.
-
RiseasUtesParticipant
I would have a bigger issue had they damaged or ruined the cat. I do hope the paint comes off, but I find it a pretty mild prank.
-
EagleMountainUteParticipant
What kind of paint could possibly be so permanent as to not come off?
-
-
PorterRockwellParticipant
They HAVE done the same thing to us. To the Native American status outside einar neilsen painting blue Y’s on the block U I seem to recall they did something to the field once
these are college pranks. Lighten up Francis

Milton VandersliceParticipant
So, every other year they wrap the cougar with plastic before the game. But they don’t this year for some reason and it gets painted? Something doesn’t add up.
-
Ute BcParticipant
They’re dumbs**ts?
-
EagleMountainUteParticipant
Too busy making dumbass Instagram posts.
-
-
-
ladyinredParticipant
I feel very “meh” about this. On the one hand, I personally wouldn’t do it, but in the end we’re still talking about college kids on both sides whose brains aren’t yet fully developed.
-
SkinyUteParticipant
Seriously, who gives a f*ck about this? I wouldn’t care if they did it to us either…this is just stupid.
-
GameForAnyFussParticipant
Yeah, it was done by Utah fans. Four were caught, cited, and released. Then this from Tom Holmoe:
Cougar cleans up well. 4 🤡s from up north apprehended. Literally caught "red handed" with red paint on hands by BYU's finest. #dumbcriminals pic.twitter.com/27GmbTArSj

Meanwhile, I wonder how many sex assaults are going uninvestigated down there because “BYU’s finest” are busy working this heinous crime?
-
TheNuschlerParticipant
This happened when I was 8. I’m now 48. Please don’t kid yourself this will always be a rivalry. Just wait if and when TDS gets us.
