ParticipantI hope he still considers coming back. Seems like a good fit in Alex system.

ParticipantA 6’10 “guy who can play on the perimeter is high value. He likely already has offers from teams, so entering the portal allows him to get bid up.

ParticipantThis is pretty surprising, I thought he was the one to most likely be back. In a season of very erratic lineups/rotations, his role seemed to be the most consistent with no competition at his position. He also figures to have a lot to gain from a coach who played the same position.

ParticipantI think he’ll be back. Ultimately, I think this is to test the waters. If Utah truly does now have $6 million to work with in NIL, I would assume that he sees this as an opportunity to gauge his value. I would expect him to be back while earning more NIL than he would have without testing the portal.

ParticipantYeah I think you’re right that it’s likely just a procedural method to improve his deal. His statement seems to intentionally communicate that he’s still interested in returning.

ParticipantWhalin and Dawes will be back even if they both enter the portal.

Utah Man 3
ParticipantI agree, they are both local guys who have good ties with Utah

ParticipantLook, I want Wahlin to be back but I’m not going to get broken up over a guy who’s stat line is 6 PPG, 5 RPG, and 1 APG. Those stats have “role player” written all over them. My biggest concern about his departure is his leaving when he’s a local guy about to be coached by a local legend that just happened to play his position.

ParticipantThis is a dumb take. There are only so many shots to go around. Teams need role players to be successful. With his play style he can be very helpful on a good team. Hustles, rebounds, defends, assists, and can score with the opportunity presents itself.

ParticipantYou know what’s a dumb take Rusty? Thinking that Wahlin is more than what he’s shown over the last two seasons, which is a role player. I don’t know if you actually read my comment or if you went from zero to crazy in a second, but I did start by saying that I indeed wanted Wahlin to be back.

ParticipantRole players are much easier to find, recruit and sign than a high star prospect. So, yeah, a few role players are needed. But, if we loose one, so be it. I agree Miami. That being said, he might be more than a role player. I see some upside in his development already. Time will tell.

ParticipantBro where did I say he was more than a role player? I don’t think YOU read my message. I was stating the value of role players and how dumb it was to diminish the value of one.

ParticipantI’m with you Rusty. I think Wahlin is a unique player at 6’10. If he can learn to hit the corner 3 with his size and length he could be a starting role player. Jensen will want him for sure. He is only a sophomore. Next year he should take a big step forward. Smith never established a role for him.
