In 1975 – I bought season tickets to Utah football for the first time.  The next two seasons we were 1-10.  This morning – two of the GameDay hosts picked Utah to be in the CFP.  I’m not predicting that we end up in the CFP.  However, to be mentioned as a possibility and to be ranked 7th in the nation is something I never dreamed of in 1975.  We have come a long way.

Thanks to Wayne Howard for taking a terrible team and making them competitive.

Thanks to Chuck Stobart for bringing in a toughness that hadn’t been here previously.

Thanks to Fassel for producing a potent offense.

Big thanks to Mac for changing the culture at Utah and for his great recruiting, especially Polynesian players.

Thanks to UM for proving that a team from SLC could compete at the highest level.

Thanks to KW for staying here to coach and making this team a national power.

      Go Utes!!!

      Getting 2010 flashbacks…..

My temper expectations negative Nelly side is saying: I hope they improved Special teams drastically and new leaders emerge on the defense. I feel like Kuithe and Rising are going to hold people accountable on that end. But we need a Lloyd which is saying a lot. Like Lloyd is arguably the best LBer in Utah history! Not easily replaced.

It is cool to see where Utah has been and to look at an upward trajectory.

That is a strange season to get “vibes” off of.

You are anticipating an eventual career ending injury being concealed for 3 weeks by a sheer talent advantage against inferior competition only to be exposed when playing teams of equal or greater talent?

Where did I say vibes?  Don’t get me wrong I am hyped. But man 2010 was hype until it wasn’t. I will just shut up..

Yeah man. I remember back in prehistoric times when my friend and I were the ONLY two people in the student section, in a foot of snow.

We have come a long way. In the 70s as a student you could take several guests maybe the first one free, show up at game time and sit around the 35 yard line a couple of rows back. We would go in with full size camp coolers and 20 people would sit behind a row of coolers of beer. If you came late you could just walk in. 20 years ago my kids as students could take up to 3 guests to games. Currently, the U charges and gets real money for the games. Still, I have thoroughly enjoyed the games every decade as the product has improved greatly. I do miss taking hot spiked cranberry juice in a big thermos to cold games, wish the old guys would be grandfathered in.

In 1975 the student section went clear to the 50 yard line. I know I sat in it. We got there a couple hours early and had our pick of the best seats. There were a couple of brothers, absolutely not students who sat in the section too. They wore red, blue budweiser knit sweaters.

Who else remembers the cymbals man?

Umbrella man in the NW corner leading cheers?

        The track around the field?

        And 1-10 Tom Lavat ☹️
