This offense is terrible. We have three TDs in the last three weeks against weak defenses.
I’m sorry, but Whitt has lost his edge and I now think it is time that he hangs it up. These guys came out flat last night. It was nauseating.
Ludwig is the offensive coordinator and QB coach. He is responsible for this mess. He can’t develop QBs. He has had many 4-start guys in here and he does not get them developed. His play calling is bad and the entire offense is not doing well.
Whitt has never let anyone go in mid-season, and he won’t do anything now. Ludwig needs to go IMO.
After this disastrous last month, my hope is that Whitt hangs it up at the end of the season and Scalley totally revamps the offense and lets the entire staff go. IMO, this offense needs to be rebuilt. Nothing will work unless you have a good Oline and our Oline was terrible last night and the previous two games.
I don’t think rebuilding will be easy, and it will probably take some time to get the right kids in here, but I really think it needs to be done ASAP.
Just two cents from a frustrated old fan.

Ludwig is not going anywhere, especially in the middle of the season. And I doubt KW will hang it up at the end of such a season.

I agree that Ludwig will not go anywhere in the middle of the season. That’s just not Whitt’s MO.
Whitt has to admit he has lost his edge and I hope he realizes it’s time to go. These last two seasons are inexcusable IMO. They have been painful.
Whitt has been a great Utah football coach. He deserves to be recognized for his amazing achievements. But, …

Theoretically, KW is good enough to still get it done with a decent OC. I mean Sitake figured it out. Hell, even an old school coach like Kirk Ferentz fired his own son. I’m just not sure KW is up to it, and that might just be his downfall.

Ferentz didn’t fire his son. In lieu of forcing him to fire, the AD put in his kid’s contract that if certain season averages weren’t met, his contract would be terminated. And when the bar of just being able to run a top 100 offense for one season was to big a burden, the stipulation was enforced.

I agree with everything you just said. But Scalley is another defensive-minded coach who will likely be Whittingham 2.0. I doubt he deviates too much from what he’s learned from his mentor. Not many people are capable of that large of a change to their core philosophy. I’d be legitimately shocked if the offense looked any differently with Scalley.

Prepare to be shocked. Scalley has stated publicly he wants more of an Urban Meyer type spread offense.

I will gladly eat crow if that happens, AZUTE. It needs to happen for the program to be successful moving forward, IMO.

Jumping in…I would consider Scalley to be the antithesis of Whitt…I don’t think that they’re alike at all. Maybe that will change when he’s the HC, but he’s always struck me as the “riverboat gambler” type.

This is the thing with some of you in here. Its slapping you right in the damn face but you won’t listen. Its maddening.
“Morgan’s gonna change everything”
“Morgan’s gonna go to an Urban Meyer Spread O”
“Morgan’s gonna let everyone go”Why do you believe this? Wheres your proof things will change with Morgan’s?
Morgan’s has ZERO experience coaching outside Utah. Zero!! He has no coaching connections outside of Utah. He’s never been a head coach anywhere! He’s Whitts protege!
Let it go….this program needs a complete revamp and I mean COMPLETE! and that’s okay. That’s what good programs do! They chamge with the evolution of the game.

What does coaching outside of Utah have to do with changing anything? Morgan could change everything about the program from the offense to the practice times and he could end up being really good, really bad or somewhere in the middle. All anyone is saying is they think he will change things based on his personality and previous statements.

I’d be very interested in seeing a study on the effectiveness of promoting within compared to bringing in an entirely new coaching staff. As previous stated on this thread, I agree with you on Scalley. Even Whittingham alluded to this on why it was important to announce him as coach-in-waiting so that there wasn’t a disruption in recruiting and continuity. That sounds like “don’t worry guys, nothing is going to change when I retire.”

I think Scalley is smart enough to see what is going on this year and is not something that is sustainable and that the offense needs to change when he takes over. To me I hope this happens sooner than later.
If I was Morgan, I would be on the phone daily with Meyer to pick his brain, get advice, asking for help, asking for possible names for coaches on his staff. Meyer has connections everywhere. If there is one knock on Scalley, it’s that he has no other experience at other programs like many other coaches do. I think he’ll figure it out.

If Scalley has eyes and a brain there is no way he would want to model an offense after this.

I think Scalley will open things up. Why? Look at when he was the special teams coordinator. He would run trick plays on special teams. Remember the punt return against Oregon when Covey faked receiving the bacll. Remember the kickoff return that cost us a safety against ASU when Covey passed the ball backward into the endzone. I liked the idea, but Covery threw it badly.
I think Scally will be different, at least I hope so. You may even see some things different on defense too.

I think a huge amount of our coaching staff will be pressuring Whitt to stick around because realistically a bunch of them are trash. QBs, O playcalling, special teams, Oline, RBs, and DBs are all pretty much a joke. No one in their right mind keeps those dudes around and Scalley just might clean house. I hope it happens tomorrow. Actually no, I hope it’s happening right now. Every minute these underachieving losers stick around is a wasted minute for every fan and player tied to this program.
