Well, what a game. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by the first half. I thought our offense was amazing and the defense was incredible. The points that BYU scored in the first half were gifts to them. One was off a terrible decision by Alford and the other was a bad decision to kick it to a great returner.
Rose balled out. The QB run element looked great. The passing game wasn’t bad. Players were making plays. It was great.
I heard that the BYU coach said at half that Utah played their best half in the 1st and now BYU had to match them in the 2nd and over the course of the game that happened.
I don’t believe that Utah initially sat on the lead – it seemed like the first series Rose passed the ball on at least 2 of the 4 downs – but he was not super accurate. I think as the half wore on and Rose was somewhat pedestrian, we then fell into the classic Utah sit on the lead mode.
Despite that we were one fingertip catch and a missed interception away from winning. Heck, I tell my buddies that there were 3 endings to this game, and we won 2 out of 3 of them.
BYU is having an incredible year. They won this game with 2 95-yard drives in the 2nd half. We blew a chance for a huge upset. The refs were a factor, but BYU still drove the field and won the game. I was disappointed but not surprised.
I think it will be hard to find wins the rest of the season. I don’t know what these kids are playing for at this point. Maybe they are just trying to put some film together to look good in the portal or the draft. The program is not in a good place, but I don’t think we should be talking about firing the coaching staff etc.
This was supposed to be a special year and now it will be remembered for a long time for all the wrong reasons –
Still love Utah football and always will…
