LSU VS Auburn
Boise St at Okie St
Washington at Utah
Alabama at Ole Miss
Ohio St at TCU
USC at Texas
I think it will go to Bama or LSU for game day.
-
UtahParticipant
You’re probably right, but if UW beats Auburn, Wash wouldn’t surprise me.
-
EagleMountainUteParticipant
ESPN has the Utah game 8pm and the Bama game is a 5 pm kick. No way Kirk stays up for that broadcast.
-
Wilson’s MustacheParticipant
There is no requirement for Kirk to call the game that he appears at for Game day. In Fact, they’ve frequented games that don’t even appear on ESPN or ABC.

That Ohio State v. TCU game, along with the USC v. Texas games look like fun matchups. Love to see solid nonconference games like that.
-
FtheYParticipant
Couldn’t agree more. Keeps it interesting and you don’t have to wait for bowl season. Did you notice that none of those teams are in the SEC?
-
Wilson’s MustacheParticipant
There are a hand full of SEC teams that actually do schedule tough opponents. Alabama has schedule a tough P5 opponent for their first game for last several years. Penn State, Michigan, Virginia Tech, West Virginia, Wisconsin, FSU, USC, and now this year Louisville this year. Future games against Texas & Miami. Granted they also schedule a plethora of patsies.
-
FtheYParticipant
I do remember watching part of their game against FSU last year now that you mention it. You should trademark “a plethora of patsies” though, that was solid.
-
ChidojuanParticipant
“Jefe, would you say I have a plethora of patsies?”
-

Si el chido!

UtahParticipant
8 conference games allow you to do that.
-
Wilson’s MustacheParticipant
Yeah that is true, and I understand that. However, there are plenty of teams with a 9 game conference schedule with their 9th game basically equating to Oregon State or Northwestern that end up playing an extremely soft Non-con. Many of the Pac-12 teams are guilty of this.
Oregon Non-con 2018:
09/01 – Bowling Green
09/08 – Portland State
09/15 – San Jose StateI will give Credit to Alabama for, not only scheduling tough teams, but doing so as their first game of the season. When you’re a team that is eyeing the Playoffs and National Championship every single year, one game can be the difference. I’ll also give credit to the SEC West being, without a doubt, the most difficult division year in/year out in college football. I believe Saban has said on many occasions that he is in favor of a 9 game conference schedule and even in favor of scheduling other p5 teams on a more consistent basis, but only if the other teams follow suit. Until then, a team like Alabama has very little to gain from overloading their non-con schedule. Their current recipe for success seems to be working well.
-
UtahParticipant
They are smart. And give credit to Alabama? They are the poster child of proper scheduling.
They open vs a good opponent, but never far from home. So, it’s not a road game for Alabama. Never on the road.
They rarely play three power five schools in a row. They always have a FCS team before their rivalry game. They always have a bye week before they play LSU.
Their SOS is usually between 65-85.
I’d love to schedule like Alabama. No one schedules down better than them.
-
EagleMountainUteParticipant
😂 Credit to Bama? They never travel and have an easy SOS.
-
UtahParticipant
Also, their first game is always a “neutral” game in LA, GA or FL. (It’s a home game). And it’s a one off game. And if you think that they just continually get lucky playing big name teams in a rebuilding year, you’re nuts.
Funny how when they play USC, they just lost their QB. Oh, and what a coincidence that Jackson just left Louisville. Lucky for Alabama.
