Seems like with any sort of defense they have played it has been a struggle. Could say the same for Utah I guess. West Virginia defense gives up a lot of yards on the ground so it should just be a continuation of the Colorado game plan.
I made a bet with the BIL that Utah would have over 500 yards of offense for the bowl game. I kind of feel bad for taking that bet now seems almost unfair with this opponent. I see Moss getting 200 at least. Huntley will have a very good game. 100 yards on the ground. 300 in the air at least. Just a lot of offense excited for this game.

I’ll have what you are having.

I remember the last time Utah played a Big 12 team.
At least the last one I can remember.

I just glanced at the trib article from today and it seems like your bet may not be far off. Looks like WVU is 110th in the nation in total defense giving up 450 yds per game on average, 200 on average on the ground.

Not to start stuff but some of there fans do not pay attention very well he said this about the PAC 12 —
In truth, it’s not. There was no truly great team, and when that happens, you all lose some, and you all win some. So, of course, you’ll all probably have decent records.Zero playoff teams, not even one new years day bowl game for the Pac 12. That pretty much tells you all you need to know about how people see the conference. Made up of a few good, not great teams, and then some average ones behind that.
I think we have 2 NY6 teams and 9 of 12 playing.
They have 1 NY6 and 8 of 10 playing.-

In our defense, our rushing yards allowed is skewed by a couple games.
All the teams who were successful running on us were top 25 teams.
The TX game our offense was inept after our QB broke his finger and our D lived on the field.
Kansas is the really ugly outlier, 367 (291 by one back) ugh. IIRC, we had 8 members of our defense miss the game or leave the game with injuries. To make it worse Kansas finished dead last in rushing YPG in the Big 12.

Of course anybody can make themselves look better if they get to pick and choose the numbers. It will definitely be something to follow during the game.

In our defense, just because we’re from Utah, doesn’t mean some of us wouldn’t accept a free jar of moonshine from a mountaineer. Just sayin’.

Were you to travel to Morgantown you would certainly be offered more than you could handle…no joke. However, since any Mountaineers traveling to the game will probably be flying I’m pretty sure the FAA would consider the good stuff an explosive device…that’s a joke…kind of.

Ok then, we need to get WVU on the schedule for football or basketball. Good luck to you guys. K-Whitt is 10-1 in bowl games, not sure exactly how he gets his teams so well prepared. The 1 loss was to Chris Peterson (Washington Huskies) back when Peterson was head coach of Boise State. Lost in the Vegas bowl.

Tony (admin)Keymaster
That’s just because Peterson is Whitt’s kryptonite.

I wish we would schedule a H-H OOC series with WVU. That would be a ton of fun!
Sadly, our OOC is highly unimpressive over the next decade.

I thought West Virgina would be a lot more heavenly than this, “That John Denver was full of ***T!”

“Almost heaven”

I feel like one thing Utah and West Virginia (the states, not the universities) have in common is that people from other places like to crap on us although both states are very nice places. In defense of the state of West Virginia, Logan Lucky was the best movie to come out this year.

Ironic that the Utes are playing the Mountaineers in the Southern Great Plains.
WV Head Coach Holgorsen is an ohfensive specialist, a Leach protege from when they were both at Texas Tech. Hope the Utes can stop their throw game or we’ll see a repeat of the Wash St game. Luckily their defense has not played well this past year, exploited by Oklahoma, for example, who lit them up for 45 points – in the first half!

It seems Will Grier has not yet recovered from the broken finger on his throwing hand. If they are forced to go with the backup then we are in business. But if somehow Grier gets back to 100% then it will be like playing the Connor Halladay-era WSU Cougs. Offense that can and will score on anybody, but with a Defense that is easy to out-scheme (which ARod never seemed to accomplish).
-
MountaineerLegionParticipant
While Holgs is a product of Leach’s offensive philosophy most people don’t realize he’s embraced the running game too.
