The Miami UteParticipant
They’re only a 2.5 point favorite versus a 3-6 Kansas team.
There’s already commentary that, if they lose the CCG and that’s their only loss, they won’t get in the CFP to the detriment of, say a 10-2 Alabama.
Most likely, they’ll be an underdog playing a resurgent ASU away.
Good night and good luck…

I assume a lot of people are fading that undefeated record. 3 points against 4-4 Utah, 2.5 at home against 3-6 Kansas. If Vegas set those lines like they would for any other P4 undefeated, they probably couldn’t get any money on the parochial school side.
It’s not like they haven’t been winning by big margins. 3 of the 9 have been 3 points or less and there are easy explanations for the SMU and Utah outcomes.

Yes, from what I’m listening to and reading, Vegas thinks that A. Their SOS isn’t that hot and B. Their performances against weak teams leaves a lot to be desired. Maybe this week versus Kansas is the week they get found out?

That’s also the bigger issue: their SOS is only going down at this point. They still get cache for beating an SMU team that is better than just about anyone thought would be, and K State is still a good win. But if your remaining hope in impressing the committee is ASU, you’d better start curbstomping fools because giving up 35 points to a team like Oklahoma State isn’t going to move the needle.
And I’m not talking about comfortable 28-14 wins. They need to beat people like Notre Dame did last week. Bad enough that people get fired after their team lost.

I watched the BYU vs. SMU game. SMU was auditioning two different QBs during that game and had zero offensive cohesion at that point. It almost seemed like a throw away game for SMU. I think SMU would beat BYU by at least 7 or more points now.

The Miami UteParticipant
You’re probably right Rick, seeing as BYU only barely won that game.

Rick: how many people that didn’t watch that game are going to remember anything other than 9-0 parochial beat 8-1 SMU in a close game?

I don’t know, but I’ve made a decent amount of money betting on BYU. Win:win

I think KU has a shot. One hard part is they are in Provo. But Jalon Daniels (dual threat QB) and Devin Neal (RB) are healthy and tore up Iowa St. At 3-6, they are hungry to win their last 3 (@ BYU, v CU, @ Baylor).
@ ASU ain’t easy either. They will have something to prove and their coach has them in a good place. They are still in the running for CCG with a little help but have to beat @ KSU (CU loss, 2 BYU losses – which they can provide 1)
BYU has beat 2 top 20 teams (Texas only has 1 btw). But barely beat SMU, miracle ending against Oklahoma St., miracle ending against Utah. It’s hard to go undefeated, period. Sometimes good records are just a couple plays away from being mediocre. But they do get W’s, but seems like at some point, luck will run out.
