What were the rumors about Wilson?

I’ve heard multiple people talk about the rumors that Wilson was so bad behind the scenes, but never heard the specifics. I don’t have Twitter, and since he’s gone, can someone eighteen me?

Summary:
He was really good in practice but not so much on game day
Teammates saw this right away and thought that Rose should be the back up
Ludwig stuck with him despite other players coming to Lud with concerns
IW then proved them right on the field and apparently in the “locker room” as well
After he was pulled in the Houston game, he immediately started talking about transferring (This part I know to be true)

My take, it sounds like he might have been the cancer that affected this team so badly. But, it could be a simple case of someone getting all the pub and other players not liking it. But I don’t buy that this explains all of it especially when we are talking about good eggs like MB

My second take, this is why Lud resigned. Wouldn’t been really hard to justify playing IW over Rose given how much better Rose looked. But this is conjecture.

I’d welcome him back so long as there are no expectations that he’s the starter or even back up. He’d have to earn it himself.

I don’t see the upside to him unless he can pack on 15 to 20 lbs of muscle and run the ball more. I think he’s too little and timid, otherwise.

He is what 18years old? It sounds like he acted immaturely which is fairly common for a young man. If he can learn from this and come back with a good attitude- that would be a win.

The team needs both quality and quantity in the QB room. The arm talent/running ability that made him an elite prospect are still there and the experience he gained last year will help his future team.

Besides- any potential transfer will come with his own set of baggage. I would welcome back a properly motivated Wilson with open arms.

I don’t expect this to happen though. Half of college football needs both quantity and quality in the QB room. He is going to be relatively cheap for many teams and he apparently wants a fresh start.

IW was part of the problem. Not part of the solution. When I heard that the Ute’s hired a TDS guy to run the offense, I was less than thrilled but the guy has a clean slate to work with and why bring back someone who helped poison the well in the first place. I’m more willing to give Beck a chance to right “our” ship than Wilson being the deliverer.

His off-the-field actions were more than just the locker room. I still believe he is a talented player. However, there is some baggage that I would not want if I was the coach.

Two weeks ago, I wanted him to stay. Now, I think it is better for Utah and Isaac if he moves on.

Proud Ute I’ve heard so many comments about off the field issues not pertaining to the locker room. Interested to know what those issues were. Thanks in advance.

It may be hard to gain that insight directly, however, if coaches let a key guy go without effort to retain them I begin to believe the coaches also see value in the change. The future QB leaving should leave signs that the coaches tried to retain the player. Because coaches don’t want to be know as someone to make negative aspects of a player known, the indication may be noted by the trailing off of phrase or positive comments. Reading tea leaves is more likely than direct confirmation. The best QB situations is competition to be QB1, demanding or expecting it leads to continued diminishing results. I expect Beck will tell Rising, Wilson, Dampier, the new recruits and anyone else, the job is a competition.

Fair enough. I agree it’s not appropriate however stating off field issues lead to speculation that may or may not be true. That’s been a Whitt problem for years with injuries.

Rising got beat out by Brewer and instead of transferring and causing locker room drama it lit a fire under him. Give me a leader that wants to prove to himself his coaches and teammates that he can be the man and earn respect. Sometimes a piece of humble pie can make you a better leader and person.

I’d rather have Nate Johnson back. He fits Becks system better.

This is a good idea. Lud or whoever was in control, did not utilize Nate to his strengths. Beck’s system is a much better fit.

Nate may be willing to come back in a backup QB role given his situation. And we need 3 backup QBs if I’m not mistaken.

One of our former position coaches now at LSU, Bill Busch, was on local radio a couple weeks ago and was talking about QB’s and “processing.” He said it’s the most important skill of a QB and described it as being to see what’s happening in live action and making a quick, correct decision, and executing it. He also said, you either have it or you don’t. Difficult to develop it. He said that Dampier has it from what he’s seen of him. He didn’t say anything about IW, but I think even the most casual fan noticed that there wasn’t much “processing” going on in the nine games he played. Makes me believe he doesn’t have it, and if Busch is right, never will.
