I felt like that second quarter of Rose football against Poo Poo was about the best we have seen all season.
I also have really appreciated some of the touchdown throws we have seen from Wilson. That drive with tight ends that was calm and methodical yesterday was really good. That throw to Singer was a beauty against one of the best corners in College Football.
But then you have the overthrows and complete break down of ability to read with Wilson. He takes way too long to make up his mind and is indecisive. If he had that little faster decision making Utah would be really good. I also think he has a hitch in his throwing motion.
Rose I haven’t seen enough but want more but Wilson I am just not excited about him anymore.
I also wonder if the coaches have any better way to evaluate it.

what I notice most is the energy and interaction with the team from these new QBs. Rose wasn’t just amped, he also shared it with his team mates. He was fully engaged with his teammates and trying to energize them. That’s what you need in a QB.
Wilson seems to stand off alone a lot. I don’t see him celebrating or collaborating with his teammates.
Cam was very noticeable in how he used to do that and even did it in the first game of this season. But I also noticed he stopped hanging out after he got hurt. he stood on the sideline usually talking with one guy, not really seeming concerned with what was happening on the field.
To me, based on my limited observation…it seems like this is what distinguishes a lot of our play. Is the QB out there leading the guys together and bringing energy to the group so they play with intensity and passion…or is he just there to do his mechanical part.
Rose seems to have it. His skill, well we need to see more of him. Wilson has some tools..and as a Freshman a lot of room to grow. But we need to see a leader who is grabbing his guys by the shoulders and inspiring them to play hard. Who does that…that is what will matter most.

It’s hard for an 18 year old to lead a bunch of older seasoned players. If he doesn’t transfer, I think he’ll take a step forward as far as leadership goes. Age matters.

Agreed, most freshman aren’t gonna earn respect by being the alpha, too many egos on the team will be bruised that way. Freshman usually earn respect by working hard in practice, in film, and the weight room. The leadership has to come naturally and can’t be forced. Part of me thinks Isaac was trying to hard to be a leader after he had some success and once things went down hill he came across as entitled or arrogant. Just one possible theory as to why nobody likes him.

Moss, Huntley, Travis Wilson, Wynn, Brian Johnson. All have demonstrated leadership early in their careers.
It isn’t something I expect from Isaac Wilson.
I just expect the coaches to put players in the best position to make an impact. Whitt and Scalley have been excellent at this. Something went wrong these past two seasons. Call it relying on Rising or what ever but the QB evaluation has been bad.
Brewer was also someone they thought would give them a better chance. The signs have been there but they had other areas perform well.

In a locker room, if you are coming off as arrogant or entitled it’s because that’s who you are. You can’t hide who you are from your teammates. Winning will make others ignore it but as soon as that goes away, you don’t have any credibility. It’s not a freshman thing, it’s an asshole thing.

Realistically, I think we (barring Wilson transferring out) go into next season with a (declared at least) 4 way battle for starting QB
• Transfer QB as the likely favorite
• Brandon Rose as the guy who has looked good in short chances, but mostly hurt
• Isaac Wilson as the touted recruit that struggled but is hopefully better with some seasoning
• Freshman QBRealistically, not all 4 of those will come in with equal likelihood, but I think we’ll at least give lip service to the idea that they’re all in the mix

Wilson is a true freshman. It’s not reasonable to expect that we’d be in the Big 12 race with a true freshman QB. It’s too soon to cut him.

Rose plays with a swagger and confidence that Wilson doesn’t. It might just be because Wilson’s a freshman but Rose has the juice. I think that’s why the guys rally around him
