Whitt interview notes:
We have some added excitement with Rising and Kuithe coming back.
You can feel a team coming together in spring ball. QB is critical. He can’t wait to get these guys on the field. We have a good group that is excited to get on the field.
With the new rule which allows more coaches, we can get more reps during the spring and fall. They split the team up during practice. This gives the team about 40% more reps. They do not do this once the season starts.
Goals for Thursday: play clean, no sloppy play, limited penalties, substitution process, tackling, have a high completion percentage, players making the right decisions.
They do not plan for the backups to get reps. They need to focus on the opponent. (Coach speak.)
Fotu is the third linebacker. All three guys can play each LB position.
During the recruiting process – they project that some of the kids are out of position and may be better suited to play another spot. We have had a lot of success doing that. Many of the kids who changed positions are now playing in the NFL.
It will be tough to get everyone touches. He hopes to get 8-9 guys catches this weekend and 3-4 guys get running opportunities.
Alex Smith is a great first inductee into the Utah Football Ring of Honor. He is always giving back to the University and the team. Alex was a big part in making Utah football a national contender.
