Tried to justify calling timeout by saying if Washington played aggressive they had a chance to get them to throw an incomplete pass and force them to punt, which would have allowed our field goal kicker to try a 60 yarder. The problem was that they were on the 30, so a punt puts us on our own 10-20. The odds of anything good coming out of that are minuscule. He then goes on to say, “we just didn’t make enough plays, get enough turnovers etc.” BS coach. You p**sed away a chance for your team to get a desperately needed win against a top 20 team on the road and everybody knows it. He needed to man up, and apologize to the team. Try to gain at least a little of their trust back. Instead he tried to justify his decision. If he is going to have that attitude and talk like that to the players, this season’s over. CU will be another painful loss to close out the season, just as we’ve had pretty much every year since joining the conference. If he’s going to have that attitude, I don’t see anyway the team isn’t completely hungover next week.

They were not going to throw AT ALL. They ran a basic run play and stayed inbounds to let the clock run out. Clock was at 22 seconds when we called TO.  If Washington was really wanting to go win it in regulation they would have come out throwing, and/or gone out of bounds. Plus we DID NOT HAVE ENOUGH TIME OUTS TO FORCE THEM TO PUNT!!!!  HELLO!?!?!?

Meh. Underdog by 17.5 points on the road. That same coach Whitt had them on the ropes after gambling on inside kick and 4th and 17. Took one more gamble, got burned.

I think not getting another first down on our last offensive drive lost the game, then proceeding to give up 10 points in 2 min was the nail in the coffin. Outside of the last 2 minutes, Whit had a great plan.

Also, I expect that he will own up to the TO issue in his presser tomorrow. But that won’t change the fact that the real failing was the 2  issues mentioned above.

So you must have really liked our chances in OT. Because I sure didn’t.

No, didn’t love our OT chances, but I liked them a lot better than trying to bait washington into a bad play/turnover with 22 seconds left on their own 30. Short of something miraculous we weren’t winning that game in overtime. I felt like we had outplayed washington all game and thought we would have a decent shot at still getting win. The probability of something positive happening with whitt’s strategy of calling a timeout there was probably somewhere in the neighborhood of 0.01%. Just makes no sense. Don’t see the upside of calling the timeout.

Whitt has been aggressive all night. It’s a split second decision. He continued to be aggressive.

Utah fans blow my mind. “Throw more” when we throw more “why aren’t we playing Utah football!” “Be aggressive!” Then we are and almost blow up a much better team “why weren’t we conservative!”

          its mind blowing.

I fear the day Whitt leaves and we struggle to find a coach that wants to put up with this bulls**t.

That’s my thinking as well. I really can’t get too worked up about the timeout because I don’t think it impacted our odds of winning too much.

After calling the timeout, I figured we had about an 80% chance of losing (which is what happened).
If we hadn’t called the timeout and sent the game to OT, I figured we had about an 80% chance of losing.

I’m NOT saying I agree with calling the timeout (I didn’t and I still don’t)…just pointing out that it’s probably not worth getting so worked up about because it probably didn’t affect our chance of winning much, if at all.
