I have been retired for many years, yet I often dream about work, but this dream was horrific. I came to work on a Monday following a Utah/BYU football game. Everyone was wearing BYU shirts and giving me crap because Utah lost to BYU for he third straight time. It was like being in a room of relentless CB posters.

I have never had a worse nightmare.

I have to believe that a dream like that is just the Good Lord giving you warning that he’s about to call you home.

Proud Ute for almost 20 years (other than the 2020 covid year when they thought they were relevant). I had no idea BYU existed. It was so nice not hearing all the hateful banter and we’re morally better than you attitude. Now like the poltergeist movie “ their back”. The blue goggles have come out of the closet.

Now they have money to buy players who never would consider going there. Give them credit for turning things around. They quickly become the most despised team in the Big 12 just like the old WAC MWC and WCC.

“Give them credit for turning things around.” I don’t agree with that statement only because you can turn things around without money. It will be very difficult now days with NIL, but it is possible. BYU just chose the easy way out and the only way they can get good players to go to BYU, is to buy them. Even if it means tampering with other schools players (ala Utah, Baylor and rumor has it other Big12 schools).

Not saying Utah isn’t doing what many schools like BYU are doing now, but Utah didn’t have the resources and kind of still don’t, but they’ve done what many schools were unable to do, and that is produce very solid competitive teams over the years and I think it will continue as long as the nucleus of the coaching staff remains in SLC. Kids choose Utah over BYU or any other school because of their success 2 out of 4 NY6 bowl games. Utah puts kids in the NFL. Utah did it with work ethic and zero resources.

Judging by what BYU has done with NIL and how they are going after players, I believe BYU is conducting nefarious business activities behind the scenes and their booster Ryan Smith is part of that. To me, something just don’t seem right or look right. Yeah, I admit definitely jealousy in me, but just the way they are going about their NIL program, they make no bones in the media and want people to know how rich they are and basically bragging about it. And make no mistake, believe it or not, they want the University of Utah and their fanbase to know they have unlimited NIL and gonna rub it in our faces.

Not wishing them bad, but I think that sooner if not later, that will all come crashing down. Don’t think NIL is sustainable long-term and most schools will want it to be gone because it’s hurting their athletic programs budget paying athletes with no regulation.

I lived through a 2-19 stretch and survived (and it was not a dream).
