Nice! Ellis best defensive player in the nation. 🙂

And he’s just a baby! He’s going to be an absolute BEAST!

He’s a junior?

Yep. Hasn’t taken a redshirt.

Was Orchard, Anae and Dimick getting this much hype at mid season? Ellis came out of nowhere. I am not even sure he was on anyone’s watch list.
Ellis might snap all of the records.

Any chance Elliss leaves for the NFL after this season? Edge rushers are a huge commodity, especially good ones.

I think there is a high likelihood. After watching the drama unfold with Kuithe and Rising having potentially career ending injuries after coming back for “one more season”, who could blame him if he does go?

Not to mention he has one of the best resources sitting across from him at the dinner table as to how/when to leverage his college experience to maximize his pro prospects.

That’s what I thought once I saw that he was a junior. If I was a betting man, I’d say that both Elliss and Bishop will probably depart for the NFL after this season. The only way I can see them staying is if they receive advice stating that they’d be better served by staying one more year, which is doubtful considering their excellent play.
In Elliss’ case, I think he’s as good as gone with the type of season he’s having. Jalean Phillips had one good season in 2020 with the Hurricanes during the Covid year and, even with a huge injury history that actually saw him medically retired from the game for a year, was still able to parlay that into becoming the 18th pick of the 2021 NFL draft. My other question is if we see Vaki leave after this season as well. It’s possible given his age.

I would say that the list of kids who actually improve their draft stock by coming back for another year is pretty small. Not that I ever had to make that decision, but I think that if I did I would go at the first opportunity. There’s a few college kids who can make enough off NIL to set themselves up for life. The rest need to go as soon as they can.
Even having catastrophic insurance doesn’t cover for what you would lose if you get injured. That can only cover what you would have been projected to get at a certain draft range. And, you are still injured so you aren’t ever eligible for the big 2nd contract.
If Kuithe had gone after 2021, he’d be on his 2nd year in the league and halfway done with his initial 3 year deal. These guys have been betting on themselves all their lives. Why stop now?
