Same. I was wrong. Barnes missing guys that are wide open, or he see them too late. He needs to be seeing them right before they get open but cannot.

I’ll eat crow here too. I thought Barnes could be serviceable but he can’t get it done.

Bryson is good during the controlled environment of practice and he’s probably phenomenal in film study because he’s so smart. I’m sure as Whit says he knows the O on paper inside and out. The game isn’t played on paper. He doesn’t make mistakes in practice because there is no real pressure from the D and he’s got the yellow don’t touch jersey on.

When the bright lights of the game come on he just doesn’t have the talent or skill set to make what he does in practice translate to live action.

He gives 100% tough as nails he’s a true Ute

Nate is gamer and will only gonna get better with more time. His ceiling is much higher than Rose’s

Johnson needs to do a better job of picking his spots to run. Baylor was keying on him and he kept pulling the ball. Glover had a chance at a house call that Johnson turned into a TFL and there were at least three other times where he kept and ran into multiple defenders.

He’ll get better but right now he’s pretty much 2017 Huntley who thinks he’s the only one who can make a play. 11 carries for 32 yards isn’t worth the hits on the QB when Jackson is ripping off 6 yards per. 2019 Huntley finally figured out that Moss was the better runner and we all saw how much better the offense operated.

His ineffectiveness as a runner I think had more to do with about how he was used most of the way through the first 2 games. Every time he was in the game, he ran the ball. The defense keyed off of him and concentrated on him running. I agree he ran it when he shouldn’t have but I think their defense expecting him to run was why it was that effective when he handed off or threw it.

I would really be interested to know why Barnes and the receivers weren’t on the same page yesterday. At times it looked like they had never played together before and were definitely making different reads.

Off the top of my head:
      – Vele stopping on a crosser while Barnes threw it for him to continue the route
      – Vele stopping for a back shoulder ball up the left sideline that Barnes threw inside and deeper, again trying to hit Vele in stride
      – the last pass to Yassmin where he was open between three defenders and turned one way and Barnes had thrown the ball to the other side.

I could understand if it happened with Pittman or Simmons who haven’t been around much but Barnes has been throwing to Vele and Yassmin for a couple of years. Ultimately 6-19 with a pick is unacceptable and Johnson should rightly be elevated. I’d just really like to know what they were seeing that he wasn’t or vice versa.

I disagree completely. Vele stopped on both because they had S help over the top. It was two bad throws by Barnes. Vele made the correct reads.

And the Yassmin throw….that was terrible and we were lucky. Yassmin was triple covered and the two WR’s at the top of the screen were WIDE OPEN. There was a reason why Whitt chewed out Barnes after that throw and we didn’t see him again. Barnes was terrible. He looked like a HS QB out there. Stand in the pocket then roll out and run for 1 yard. He was so bad. And he was this bad in the first game as well. I got so much crap from Utah fans for saying that last week.

He had one good throw vs Florida and that was the first one, and like I said, that was a scheme throw (Johnson could have easily done that AAAAANNNNNDDDDDD Barnes threw to the wrong WR. The WR on the shorter route was WIDE OPEN for a TD as well, Barnes threw that ball into double coverage). Not a good Barnes play.

The offense does not go anywhere with Barnes at QB.
