I do a stat system involving 5 year recruiting cycles and 4 year on the field results. Both are weighed to account for leaving early, redshirting & etc. On field are weighed with more emphasis toward the current year. To keep it simple I don’t consider coaching or returning starters. This is how the Pac 12 stacks up — and I do not necessarily…[Read more]

Making so much noise so the visiting team can’t hear the signal is fair? Just one example. However many unfair things we could think of does not excuse breaking the “code”. Heck, even in war there are rules. But yes, fascinating to me as well.
Do you ever wonder if the HOME teams has a headphone that eavesdrops on the Visiting teams…[Read more]

I think too much emphasis is put on winning the conference. I remember when Georgia won the SEC with a 6-4 record. Georgia was the SEC rep in the Sugar Bowl. I think the conference crown should be used when two team are really close and one is a Champion. Anyway, I think a two loss PAC 12 champion Utah has a good shot at the CFP.

I watched the game from the deep south. It was a good one and I won a meal. I think I’ll have rib eye.

No question beating one of the Pac 12 brand names will give a boost to momentum. I think a win here opens up several big bowls.

Charles Satterfield replied to the topic Utah Football Perception in the PAC12 in the forum Football 8 years, 6 months ago
I can’t speak for Pac 12 teams but as an SEC fan I think Utah is respected but not as much as the traditional winning programs in the Pac 12. That respect will come with the winning seasons. A couple more like last year and you will be there, I am sure.

Charles Satterfield started the topic Athlon Utah Spring preview in the forum Football 8 years, 8 months ago
Utah is transforming into a team other Pac-12 teams don’t want to face.
The Utes are coming off their best season since joining the league – finishing 10-3 overall and earning a bowl victory and final Top 25 ranking for the second consecutive season. Can Utah keep all of this momentum going forward in 2016?
The Utes have the ingredients in p…[Read more]

Charles Satterfield replied to the topic Conference Realignment – The Pac-16? in the forum Football 8 years, 9 months ago
The only reason any Power Five conference would take BYU is desperation. They bring nothing to the table for Pac 12 since they already have a media presence. Because of travel their only hope is a desperate Big 12.

Making things even more different is the schematic tweaks the Utes have implemented during the offseason. Whittingham said they’re still a spread offense, but the quarterbacks will be under center much more than in the past.
“It’s most definitely a different feel,” Cox said. “New faces, new people. This is the time to feel out who’s going to make…[Read more]

According to stats (past four years conference record) and recruiting (past four years) averaged together Utah will finish 5-7. However, Utah just had that breakout season in the PAC12 that teams have when then prove they belong in a league. Now the question is can Utah sustain as Baylor has proven then can do. I think Utah can sustain and the…[Read more]

The team with the best Defense (total defense) has won all five PAC 12 championship games. NCAA national Offense is in the first column. Defense the second. Defense is 5/0 in these games. The best Offense lost three of the five.

How ridiculous. No one in their right mind will have a championship game and a round robin. Now they may only schedule six conference games or something like that to try to avoid a second meeting. I am certain the PAC 12 is not considering booting anyone so they can do likewise.

Charles Satterfield replied to the topic Recruiting? I don't get the value in following it. in the forum Football 8 years, 11 months ago
In the SEC the recruiting ranking and the Conference win/loss record match pretty well over four year periods. This holds true for the P5 conferences with the exception of a few over achievers, like Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech and such. GT runs a wishbone which helps them. TCU and Baylor also usually over achieve against team who out recruited…[Read more]

Charles Satterfield replied to the topic Utes to face BYU in 2015 Las Vegas Bowl – Your Comments? in the forum Football 9 years ago
Nothing to gain by playing in this game. I agree and this gives BYU the edge. This is the same way Bama fans (including myself) felt in 2008 when we fell from #1 to face a MWC Utah in the Sugar Bowl. We were number one right until the lost the SEC championship game. I hope the Utes are not so bummed out they are just going to go thru the motions.

Bowls used to be about rewarding good teams. This was before television and of course cable. Teams traveled by train and huge crowds would come out to wave as the train passed through town. Christmas parades drew huge crowds as well because there was nothing to do at home except play checkers or cards (no TV).
Ah, then comes TV and Cable.…[Read more]
