      1. If a post is at all about politics it should be in the politics category. Divisive topics should be isolated if reducing infighting is a priority.

      2. Moderator permissions should be strictly limited to allow for people to express themselves, and very clear rules must be outlined. Perhaps a temporary threadjacking ban should be instituted. I’m amazed at how a few individuals manage to make any political content about BYU and religion, or any combination of those topics, and IMHO it’s pretty obnoxious.

      3. Having to police a NSFW category would potentially suck for a moderator, and there are potential legal issues, you especially have to be careful that children are not exploited (which is a sad commentary on humanity). However, I can understand why reading about poster’s exploits in Nevada brothels isn’t something that reflects well on the fanbase, may alienate some of the readership, and which some among us may not want on the home page along with political infighting, religious bashing, and inexplicable fascination with irrelevant mid-major institutions.

      4. You’re doing a good job Tony, I appreciate your taking people’s suggestions under consideration.

        LOL. Well, there’s this one:

Some quotes about Mormons from the 1800’s

Wow, I must have touched a nerve. BTW, I put you on ignore because you’re exactly the kind of poster it isn’t worth engaging with here. I figured it was the “Christian thing to do” (I noticed you like to apply that phrase when discussing politics) since your religion (which you strangely seem to love discussing the sketchiest parts of and morally equating to radical Islam which has me fearing Mormons) and your politics are apparently inseparable. Buh-bye.

Let’s not engage in further finger pointing, it just adds to the frenzy. I said my piece. Fanatics spoiling for a fight just feed on being identified and someone to hate on.

Is this a threadjack of the thread about stopping threadjacking? That’s meta.

I think we need to ask if making an extra step to get to contentious or salacious topics and not having them on the homepage where anyone might get upset or be harmed seeing them and make a bad decision in escalating hostility or discontinuing use of the site is something that is wanted or will be useful to the casual user of Utehub?

To me it’s more about encouraging and fostering a positive discussion.

Emphasis on this being a sports first message board is a great idea. Sports bring us together here. Utehub should celebrate that.

I’m guessing you’re not addressing me, but the average teacher salary is very near the national average income and they earn it by working 185 days instead of the 231 norm of most private sector professionals. Teachers and police are middle income, not poor.

Lower paid? Maybe, if you don’t account for cost of living. Lowest paid? No.

      Average Utah teacher salary: 31/50 $49,393 (2013)

Average National teacher salary: $52,362 (approx. equal to Vermont’s average 21/50)

Median Utah police patrol officer salary: $44,280 (2010) (by the way, these wages are determined by municipality so they’re not relevant to discussing the Utah legislature)

      National Median p.p.o. salary: $53,281 (2017)

      Utah Paramedic Avg. Hourly: $16.91

      National 50th Percentile wage: $16.66

Cost of living in Utah: 35th most expensive state to live in/17th least expensive state to live.
