DataUte replied to the topic Any scrimmage tidbits? in the forum Football 4 months, 1 week ago
Wow, with the players we have on defense, that’s encouraging. And it seems the defense usually leads as the offense gets it together with timing, blocking, etc. So hopefully this means our offense is top of the conference and our defense still is one of the best ever. Going to be a fun year.

Even sadder, would be starting his 2nd NFL year after offensive rookie of the year.

No reason. I don’t know enough about Randle and Mitchell other than 90 and 86 as recruits. We’ll need them all and whoever can deliver, I’m all for. Hoping top 2 are work horses and RB3 and beyond are only needed if for depth for injuries.

I’m of the opinion that we are more likely to have 3 RBs with 400-600 yards (maybe one that is closer to 700, maybe another that gets to 300) than a 1000 yard rusher – a more true RB1 like Thomas, Moss, Williams, Booker, etc.
Bernard, Glover are likely the top 2. Both will get carries, have experience, might go out for receiving and will be…[Read more]

DataUte replied to the topic Who will be Utah's leading receiver in 2024? in the forum Football 4 months, 2 weeks ago
When I saw the question, my first reaction was Kuithe then Singer. But I like where some are going with their predictions. Kuithe’s continued health will obviously be a question until he plays all the games and stays healthy, but anyone is prone to an injury. Parks and Pittman will be in the mix enough and we’ll get some catches from a few other…[Read more]

DataUte replied to the topic Holy Shit. Fresno St needs a HC. in the forum Football 5 months, 1 week ago
My CA cousin says UC schools are where it’s at and they’d rather have their kids go out of state than to a poo poo CA St. school. Jokes. I agree with others that Fresno St. and Boise St. are 2 G5 schools that can launch a HC career into a good P4 job when they come available.

Joking of course. I was actually born in Walnut Creek while my parents lived in Tracy. Moved just before I was 3 though. I actually have not been to Fresno, but my BIL grew up there and has mixed feelings. Mostly the summer heat and that it’s not that developed is the feeling I get are the detractors from my SIL, but she could be biased by in-law…[Read more]

DataUte replied to the topic Glad we didn’t waste NIL on Cormani McClain in the forum Football 5 months, 1 week ago
That’s kind of what I was thinking. I wonder if there is some ADHD or something else beyond a feeling of entitlement. Maybe he needs a different kind of support or at least a roommate that can keep him on schedule.

DataUte replied to the topic QB depth after Rising in the forum Football 5 months, 2 weeks ago
I can’t believe Rising can play an 8th season. But he’s likely going to make more in NIL than as an UDFA. I just don’t see his injury history getting him drafted, even if he has a stellar year. That would just be insane. I love Rising and he’s a great college player. I think it would be great for 2025 continuity (possibly if they win the Big 12,…[Read more]

DataUte replied to the topic Utes back in the Rose Bowl in the forum Football 5 months, 2 weeks ago
I am optimistic for 2025. Probably an 8-4 team. We do lose a lot, but have at least 2 qbs that should compete to take over and some solid position players. Definitely will be a drop off, but UCLA might be trash in 2025 after everyone bails after a 2024 season with travel to Hawaii, LSU, Penn St., Rutgers, Nebraska, UW

College basketball is a terrible product. Who cares? I’d be fine with being a perennial top 15 team in football if it means we never win another basketball game. Being a great football school will get you in the top tier of whatever is coming next. Basketball is an after thought.

DataUte replied to the topic This is the year that we should open up the offense IMO. in the forum Football 5 months, 4 weeks ago
This. And also a longing for a RB1. Times have changed and yes, a durable, great RB1 is a thing of beauty, but having 2-3 getting 8-12 carries a game is fine. Yes, there is some rythym, but RB by committee is common and keeps fresh legs and different styles going against the defense. The OL is more critical if you have only ‘pretty good’ RBs.

good call – that rule change will be a new wrinkle to not worry about an incomplete pass getting behind the chains and a whole 3 and out possession (which I hope are very few!) last only 0:19 on the clock.

I agree, but still wonder about Whitt wanting TOP to be a big part of the game plan. I wonder about the pace of play as well as pass/run ratio. I think Whitt likes 50/50, but I agree that we can go more towards 60/40 or 65/35, using the run game to keep things honest and run the clock while taking a few more shots downfield. TEs will be a big part…[Read more]

Bernard is better at picking up blocks when needed. He was the more all around RB – run, catch, block. JQJ might have been bigger, but he missed more blocking assignments as he was still getting back into improving at RB.
