This is the reality of the current environment. Utah will flounder if we can’t compete on NIL. BYU appears to have the advantage because they’ve got a few billionaires allegedly backing them. I won’t hate on em for it. I hate the game, but can’t blame them for taking advantage of it.

I think BYU will be good, but they were among the luckiest teams last season and those sorts of things tend to even out. I have them at 8-4.
ASU losing Skattebo is a HUGE deal. Keeping Leavitt is great for them though. I expect they will go 8-3.
As for the Utes, we’ll have a serviceable offense and defense will be solid. We’ll bounce back,…[Read more]

To be fair to Young, he’s been a head coach for 1/2 a season.

I almost want to fire Smith more for the missed free throws than for losses. Do they just nir practice them? There is zero excuse for a Big-12 caliber player to be worse than an 80% free throw shooter.

Would you rather be Nebraska under late Tom Osborne or post Tom Osborne?

I’d feel a lot worse if Whitt left.
Far too often a hall of fame coach leaves and the replacement struggles. I know Scalley is a known commodity to Ute fans, but it’s no guarantee he has the chops for head coach or will be successful. I think he’ll be successful, but I know that Whit has what it takes.

AlohaUte replied to the topic Hot Off the Press: Deion Sanders Leaving Colorado for Vegas Raiders? in the forum Football 3 weeks, 3 days ago
First of all, there are numerous reports that Deion is interested, but nothing is official or imminent. It also doesn’t mean the Raiders are interested. It may happen. It may not.
Second of all, Toll is the biggest hack in Big12 related circles. If you look up “clickbait bullshi**er” in the dictionary, there’s a picture of him. You’d be far…[Read more]

AlohaUte replied to the topic ND beats Penn State – Thoughts? in the forum Football 3 weeks, 4 days ago
That was a great game. Fun to watch.
Both teams have reputations for not being able to win big games. Notre Dame pulling it off was huge for that program.
I wonder if their success as an independent might be appealing to other blur blood programs. ND gets to keep 100% of their playoff money and not split it with anyone, unlike the other…[Read more]

AlohaUte replied to the topic Smith Post Game Interviews and Thougths in the forum Basketball (Men) 3 weeks, 6 days ago
It’s tough, because it seems in all three of the last big losses, the team kept it competitive for a half. So I can see where he’s coming from with some of the positivity comments. But the team simply isn’t good enough to compete in the Big-12 or even the Pac-12. He’s not able to attract the talent necessary. It’s likely both him not having the…[Read more]

AlohaUte replied to the topic Status of Utah football in the forum Football 4 weeks, 1 day ago
First, the offense can’t be worse. So we got an upgrade for sure. Is it enough though? TBD.
I’m a little concerned we didn’t have more transfers in the trenches on both sides of the ball.
But I think we’ll be substantially better next season. Dominant defense will be there and couple that with a sufficient offense and we’ll compete for the top…[Read more]

I hope we pick up some more talent for the OL and DL. Improve and dominate in the trenches.

AlohaUte replied to the topic Bowl Game Absurdity in the NIL/Portal Era in the forum Football 1 month, 1 week ago
So? Every school should do it. Bowl games are essentially exhibitions. There’s real monetary risk to many of these athletes. That’s the whole point of insurance.

While Cam Ward did that, I give you Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter from Colorado who are both first round picks and played the whole game despite the current climate.
