AlohaUte replied to the topic ND beats Penn State – Thoughts? in the forum Football 2 weeks, 2 days ago
That was a great game. Fun to watch.
Both teams have reputations for not being able to win big games. Notre Dame pulling it off was huge for that program.
I wonder if their success as an independent might be appealing to other blur blood programs. ND gets to keep 100% of their playoff money and not split it with anyone, unlike the other…[Read more]

It’s tough, because it seems in all three of the last big losses, the team kept it competitive for a half. So I can see where he’s coming from with some of the positivity comments. But the team simply isn’t good enough to compete in the Big-12 or even the Pac-12. He’s not able to attract the talent necessary. It’s likely both him not having the…[Read more]

AlohaUte replied to the topic Status of Utah football in the forum Football 2 weeks, 6 days ago
First, the offense can’t be worse. So we got an upgrade for sure. Is it enough though? TBD.
I’m a little concerned we didn’t have more transfers in the trenches on both sides of the ball.
But I think we’ll be substantially better next season. Dominant defense will be there and couple that with a sufficient offense and we’ll compete for the top…[Read more]

I hope we pick up some more talent for the OL and DL. Improve and dominate in the trenches.

You know Oregon already played and beat OSU right? I’m not sure what point you are trying to make.

AlohaUte replied to the topic Bowl Game Absurdity in the NIL/Portal Era in the forum Football 4 weeks ago
So? Every school should do it. Bowl games are essentially exhibitions. There’s real monetary risk to many of these athletes. That’s the whole point of insurance.

While Cam Ward did that, I give you Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter from Colorado who are both first round picks and played the whole game despite the current climate.

AlohaUte replied to the topic “I’m leaving for the money, end of story.” Be a pro if you want pro money in the forum Football 1 month ago
I recommend you accept the changes in CFB. Does it kinda suck? Yes. But this is the new reality and continuing to hate on players for leaving for more money isn’t helpful. I mean would you leave your job if another company offered you substantially more?
I hate it, but it’s reality. You’d be better off direction your bitterness at TV execs,…[Read more]

Just remember, the portal goes both ways. Yes we lost some talent, nut there is plenty of talent from other schools that are transferring too.
The portal takes and it gives. If you only focus on it’s takes, you’ll be miserable.
Also it’s the new normal and we’ll lose people every season. And so will every team. So don’t lose any sleep over it.

AlohaUte replied to the topic NIL and university employment in the forum Football 1 month ago
You make some good thought provoking points. But don’t underestimate what a great football program does for the perception of a University. The University of Utah has benefitted massively from being great at football and being in the Pac-12. An interesting read is looking into how Alabama’s recent run of football dominance completely changed the…[Read more]

AlohaUte replied to the topic What happens to Players who go to the Portal, but get no offers? in the forum Football 1 month ago
A lot drop down levels, like go D2 or NAIA. I was talking to a baseball coach at a local D2 school, he said one thing that sucks for new high school graduate is there are so many fewer opportunities to get on a team in college because the transfer portal allows them to get players from D1 who are more ready now. I assume it’s the same for football.

AlohaUte replied to the topic Needs to be an NIL Regulatory Office in the forum Football 1 month ago
Here’s what you all need to understand. Any attempt to regulate NIL or limit what players can get paid will be shot down by the courts unless agreed to by the players. Thus the only way what you want gets done, and I agree it should, is if the players are able to somehow collective bargain. They will need to essentially unionize and negotiate…[Read more]

AlohaUte replied to the topic WP Commit in the forum Football 1 month, 1 week ago
I hate to break it to you buddy, but this is the new normal in CFB. Each year is going to be a crap shoot with a flood of people leaving and a flood of people coming in.
The teams that will find success will be those that are able to find the best real talent and get the teams to mold in time.

AlohaUte replied to the topic Williams from Tulsa to utah in the forum Football 1 month, 1 week ago
Maybe, but there is also plenty of talent from the top tier schools who are buried in the depth charts who will transfer to “mid-tier” schools too. The one positive of the transfer portal, amidst of tons of negative, is that we are getting more parody in CFB. Talent is being spread out.
Also, it really comes down to NIL, if Utah can pay…[Read more]
