I’m less and less concerned about High School recruiting because of the Transfer Portal. It’s still got some importance, but not near as much as it used to. I still want us to get top recruits and keep them and develop them, but when we can augment with experienced players, there’s an argument to be made that we should put more focus on the portal.

AlohaUte replied to the topic Now I understand why Barnes is Transferring in the forum Football 11 months ago
Wait, there were people that didn’t understand why he was transferring when he announced it? It made perfect sense when he announced. He’s not going to be the starter next year, he’s not going to be the back up next year, so why stick around? He’s proven he’s good enough to play somewhere so if he’s not going play here, then he should transfer.

AlohaUte replied to the topic No there is 3 left in to 2025 QB room in the forum Football 11 months ago
Just read the Deseret News article on the QB room, sounds like it’s a possibility that Bottari returns, so he gives us some emergency depth. They also mentioned Steve Smedley, anyone know anything about him? Is he a scholarship QB or a walk on? Is he viable to develop into a backup?

AlohaUte replied to the topic Dante Moore (UCLA) and DJU to the Transfer Portal in the forum Football 11 months, 1 week ago
And those quality ones will be looking for (1) money and (2) starting QB next season. Rising is likely taking up most of the money allocate from NIL for a QB and he’s got the starting spot locked down. The best we are going to get in the portal is likely a solid QB who would start for a G-5 team perhaps, but not really a star that can lead a team…[Read more]

AlohaUte replied to the topic I'm not sure why people are so hard on ludwig concerning QB development in the forum Football 11 months, 1 week ago
I’m inclined to agree with you. Fans often times are irrational, they seem to forget that we had a dynamic, top rated offense just last season.

AlohaUte replied to the topic Glover is the best back today. Almost has 100 yards on 14 carries. in the forum Football 11 months, 1 week ago
He’s finally developing into what we all hoped he would. I’m increasingly bullish in him for upcoming seasons.

Why is this shocking? The Deseret News has been publishing great Ute content for years. If you didn’t know this, you’ve missed out.

I think it would have made a difference in Oregon State as well. We werent’ winning that Oregon game no matter who was QB though.

AlohaUte replied to the topic I'm really enjoying this season in the forum Football 11 months, 3 weeks ago
The key is acceptance. The first 4 or 5 games were frustrating, despite the wins. But once I accepted this team for what it was and took into account the ridiculous amount of injuries, the stress went away.
Note though, that this is not the most fun season. I enjoyed the last two years much more, despite the stress. But it’s nice to not be…[Read more]

With all the injuries, I have very few expectations and have decided to just enjoy it. The game today wasn’t stressful. I wasn’t angry. Yes, I was a bit disappointed, but it was a great game and fun. I am so impressed with this team considering the context. Whittingham has been amazing. About the only thing I’d be upset about is losing to…[Read more]

Putting 55 on ASU will do that I guess.

AlohaUte replied to the topic Big 12 Schedule 2024-2027 in the forum Football 1 year ago
It’s really a shame they only did those 4 permanent rivalries. It would be great for each team to have a rivalry aligned annually that can grow and develop. Cincinnati vs. WVU, Houston vs UCF, TTU vs Ok State, Iowa State vs Colorado could all develop well.
Also it’s a crime against humanity that Farmageddon (Iowa State vs Kansas State) is not…[Read more]

But we play in Texas every season. So that’s good.

I know it won’t happen, but of those 5, I’d kinda like to play Boston College. Just purely from a “match up that I’d enjoy watching” perspective.

I’d be very happy with playing BYU in a bowl game as well.

Love Barnes, always will, but I’ll say it again. He’s a starter in FCS, not P5.

I didn’t expect Utah to win, we are playing with house money, and as much as I love Bryson and his story, I’ve accepted that he’s more of an FCS starter than a Pac-12 starter. I expect the Washington game will be similar.

Long and short of it, we can at most lose one more game if we want to be in, and even then it might take some luck. We lose two and we are out. I highly doubt we beat UW in Seattle, so this game is pretty critical.
