Isn’t that already the list for 5* recruits? I don’t see how NIL, then, changes anything.

Been pondering this, if we get a 4th OOC, I think our structure should be:
1. BYU or Utah State
2. Solid P5 team (e.g. Baylor, Florida, etc)
3. middling/crummy P5 (e.g. Illinois, Wake Forest, etc) or good G5 (Boise, SDSU, etc)
5. FCS or meh G5 (e.g. Montana, New Mexico, UNLV)And yes, I am one who loves the BYU game and thinks it should be played…[Read more]

I think the counter argument on diminishing the quality of the regular season is that with the 12 team playoff one, even two losses don’t eliminate you (not that one loss really eliminated P5’s anyway). Thus, playing another power team in the non-conference and losing is less likely to hurt you, and therefore P5’s may be more apt to play that…[Read more]

I really wish there was a way to force the SEC’s hand to play 9 games. I like playing more Pac-12 teams, not less. But at the same time, I get it and a move to 8 from a pure practicality standpoint is probably for the best. The Pac-12 teams that seem to always sell out or come close to it are likely to have minimal impact from, say, dropping Cal…[Read more]

I’ve never disliked CFB more than I do right now and it is a direct correlation with the 4 team playoff. I hate it immensely. In fact, I think I’ll continue to hate it as long as there is a situation where a team can go undefeated and still have zero change of making the playoff. I think the only thing that solves that is where every conference…[Read more]

Any system that doesn’t have an autobid for every FBS conference is insufficient. Thus, I support 12 or 16 with 10 autobids and the rest being at-large.

You can thank me (not really), he was in my ward when he was in High School. I was chatting with him in the hall and asked about playing after High School. He said he hoped to land at a Pac-12 school. I told him he needed to end up at Utah! He chuckled and said something like “I’d take it”. Lo and behold, a couple years later he’s at the U.

I think we are going to have a great team this year and will certainly compete for the Conference title. The biggest challenge to me is that the Pac-12 South is deep. USC, ASU, and UCLA will be right there with the Utes. Whichever team makes the fewest mistakes and takes advantage of opportunity will win the South. I don’t think there is really…[Read more]

Surprised the Weber and USU are tied. I would have thought USU would have had quite a few more.

Well put, I do have the utmost respect for Larry as a person and especially as a basketball mind. He clearly loves and knows the sport extremely well. And I do think you put it best, Larry hit his peak. He still has a bright future, maybe even at a different power-6 school, but I think he’d be perfect at a smaller D-1, like back at Montana or Cal…[Read more]

Yeah, that’s how every school is. It’s not like Utah has great programs in everything. BYU is still an excellent university. If you want to go into Business or Law or be an entrepreneur BYU is one of the best schools in the nation. If you want to study medicine, engineering, sciences and do research go to Utah.

Do you have the link? U.S. News usually has BYU in the 70’s in national rankings and Utah around 100-120. So I’m surprised by this. (also US News rankings are kinda trash). I’ve seen other international rankings where Utah is in the top 100 globally. All this comes down to how one values a University. If the ranking is weighted towards research…[Read more]

AlohaUte replied to the topic Why We Should Do Better in Football and Why Basketball Has Peaked in the forum Football 3 years, 8 months ago
Meh, there’s tons of all kinds of talent for football and basketball in the Bay Area and Cal sucks at both. I think it’s far less local talent pool (which certainly is a minor factor) and far more coaching and program culture. It’s not like Utah was any more packed with local BBall talent in the 1990’s than they are today, yet the Utes were amazing then.

How are we on the Nordic front? IIRC, we are pretty solid, but any chance of us losing the lead due to it?

I feel the same way. The NBA seems to have far less parity and it stinks. But the Jazz doing so well has also re-sparked my interest this season.

AlohaUte replied to the topic Elite WRs & Utah in the forum Football 3 years, 9 months ago
eeeehhh, I kinda agree and I get what you are saying. But WR’s more than any other position is impacted by the quality of QB and the offensive approach. I think Utah’s offensive approach is adequate enough for an elite WR to find success, but our history of QB’s hasn’t been good enough. Huntley was great, but last season in those 5 or so games…[Read more]

My favorite play from last year was one of Ty Jordan’s TD runs, I think against Wazzu, when he basically juked a LB and then a DB for about a 15 yard run or so, that was an amazing run.
The only thing that concerns me about our offense, and I think it’s more of a QB problem than coaching, is that we aren’t using the WR enough. We have some good…[Read more]

Sigh, I love watching the Running Utes historically, but honestly, I just can’t. It’s just not fun at all. I’ll admit I love watching Timmy Allen, he’s a stud. And these Utes have some talent, but I just don’t think Krystkowiak can coach them up properly.
And I also think it’s a general CBB and production thing. College basketball has so many…[Read more] - Load More
